Default Soccer fan drives 18,000 km from Germany to South Africa in CR's favorite car!

This event was on the news a few days ago, so that's how I found out about it. A German citizen named Armin Hollensteiner combined the World Cup with a road trip. He left his hometown of Bielefeld (Northern Germany) in mid March and drove down south towards Africa taking a ferry across the Mediterranean Sea. Since he had plenty of time before the World Cup started, he used it to tour different African countries - with his car.

Mr. Hollensteiner drives a Land Rover Defender, probably a TD5 diesel. No problems popped up during the journey. Mr. Hollensteiner simply stopped at a few mechanic shops en route to conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, water refilling and apparently lots of air-filter changes since he was often driving through heavily-filled areas.

He arrived in South Africa and will most likely enjoy the game tonight between Germany and Australia in the stadium.

The website is in German. Lot's of medium quality images, though.

And here he's come across some Dutch soccer fans who've done the same thing and taken their Land Rover Discovery from the Netherlands down south towards Africa!

I've adjusted to life well in Europe, but the one thing I just cannot get into is soccer. It's not a game I am particularly interested in. I prefer tennis and golf.

I didn't watch the game, but my German wife did and she "screamed" four times!
