WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported May sales of 22,092 vehicles delivering the best result this year in spite of volume being down 3.9 percent compared to May 2009. Year-to-date, the BMW Group also reported a total sales volume of 98,254 vehicles, up five percent from the same period last year.

"We continued to successfully manage through a difficult transition period prior to the launch of key, new high volume vehicles," said Jim O'Donnell, President of BMW of North America, LLC. "The good news is we're now in that launch window with the first of these products - the all-new 5 Series - entering the market this month."

The new BMW 5 Series kicks-off a model offensive that will replace about 60 percent of BMW's current model line-up with all-new products over the next 30 months. On the MINI side, starting in 2011, MINI's product range will double from three to six creating additional growth perspectives for the premium small car brand.

BMW Brand Sales

Taking the limited availability of the 5 Series and X3 ahead of the new model launches into account, the BMW brand managed to hold its own in May selling 17,859 vehicles, a slight decrease of 2.9 percent versus last May. Year-to-date, sales increased by six percent to 81,450 units.

After the first five months of the year, BMW held onto its leading position in the important premium midsize "3 Series" segment with sales up 15.9 percent to 40,019 units accounting for almost 50 percent of BMW's overall sales volume in the U.S. BMW also kept its lead in the large luxury vehicle segment with sales of the 7 Series up 114.2 percent to 5,119 units. The BMW X5 xDrive35d continued to lead the premium diesel segment in the U.S. with 3,256 vehicles delivered to customers, up 126 percent, during the first five months of the year selling more than twice as many vehicles than its closest competitor.

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles

In May, sales of BMW's used vehicles (including certified pre-owned vehicles) sold through BMW's dealership network increased 4.1 percent to 14,958 vehicles. Year-to-date, used vehicle sales were up 5.6 percent to 70,278 vehicles.

MINI Brand Sales

Coming from a very strong performance in May 2009, MINI USA reported sales of 4,233 cars, a decrease of 8.2 percent. Year over year, MINI showed a stable performance with 16,804 units, up 0.1 percent and continued to increase its share in a market that is still lagging other segments.

Nissan Division sales rose 24.1 percent for the month, while sales of Infiniti vehicles were 24.6 percent higher than a year before.

“Nissan’s model lineup continues to show strength, with Altima, Versa, Sentra and Rogue leading the way,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. “The value, performance and style of those models are resonating well with consumers and driving our brand.”

Porsche Reports May Sales in the U.S.

Boxster Sales Surge; Panamera Remains Hot

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars, Cayenne SUVs and the Panamera Gran Turismo in the United States, today announced May sales in the U.S. of 1,873 units compared to the same period last year when it sold 1,979, a decrease of just 5 percent.

Overall for May, Porsche saw a slight sales decline for the month mainly due to the fact the German car company is preparing for the launch of the next generation Cayenne model and is in the midst of a successful sell-down of its top seller. The all-new 2011 Cayenne S (V8) and Turbo models will go on sale in July, while the Cayenne and Cayenne S Hybrid models will be available this fall.

With the spring and summer season in full swing, Porsche enjoyed very robust sales of its Boxster and Boxster S roadsters. For May, the auto maker posted sales of 349 Boxsters, an increase of 52 percent above last year. This marks the best single month results for the Boxster since July of 2008. Combined with sales of 539 911s and 183 Caymans, Porsche sold a total of 1,071 sports cars.

Porsche’s new Panamera continued to record very strong sales numbers. In May, Porsche sold 605 new Panameras, among its best performances since the new four-door sports car went on sale eight months ago. The Panamera’s product portfolio will expand with the addition of the new Panamera V6, which will arrive at Porsche dealerships early this month. In 2010 alone, Porsche has sold 2,768 V8 Panameras in the U.S.

For the year, Porsche sales are slightly ahead of last year. Porsche’s overall year-to-date sales in 2010 are 8,842 compared to the same period last year when they were 8,757.

For the month, Porsche’s Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicle sales were 812, compared to 693 for the same month last year.

Okay some thoughts.

Lexus sold 4 grand more than the next closes brand and this is a "bad" year for them with all the bad press. Amazing.

The RX and 3 series basically outsell Audi down....amazing

As I predicted Buick, Caddy now outsell Acura.

Audi now comfortably outsells Infiniti

Lincoln is stagnant from last year building on no momentum.

Nissan Maxima sales are simply incredible.

The VW vastly outsells the Genesis sedan.

Genesis seems to sell around 2200-2500 a month, far below sales goals.

Buick squeezed in 150 Regals, this will only add more volume to Buick.

3 series back to pre recession levels.

ES is back to pre recession levels.

TL is a complete sales failure.

HS is also faltering with sales.

Infiniti has to be Very concerned with the new M37/56. It only rose 61% and is struggling thus far. It barely is selling over much older competition.

Why Caddy wants to merge the DTS with the STS is beyond me. DTS is a great seller for them.

Panamera continues to do well.

Q5/GLK dominate cute-utes.

RDX fwd model seems to have helped.

RX sales are incredible.

Enclave+SRX double team is steady 2nd/3rd in sales. MDX no longer.

MDX sales best for Acura and not surprising, it is their best product by far.

The much more expensive X6 outsells the ZDX every month. The ZDX is selling at 50% of its sales goal its first year.

Escalade dominates big SUV class.

A5 continues to outsell the G37. Both sell well for coupes.

Funny but the $250,000 or so SLS outsold A LOT of other coupes.

Muscle Cars are a 2 way race.

Not surprised. I'd buy the A5 over almost anything in the segment.

Correct me if I am wrong but while all G37c's are either RWD or AWD isnt the A5 I-4/FWD in base form? Or are they all AWD?

I'd take the G37 over A5 but S5 over G37.

The Audi A5 build site indicates all A5's have Quattro regardless of engine and transmission.

May 2010 was a crazy month of sales for the U.S. auto industry. Would you have expected Ford Motor Company, riding high on a string of successful monthly sales performances, to announce the death of Mercury on the same day it posts nearly a 22% rise in sales? Would you have expected the four remaining "Core" brands of General Motors to outsell all eight of the company's brands from back in May 2009? Would you have expected the Toyota brand to still be on the outs with customers, posting just a 3.6-percent rise in sales in comparison to Ford (up 27.9 percent), Chevrolet (up 31.15 percent) and even Dodge (up 72.7 percent!)? And finally, would you have expected the Mustang to outsell the Camaro, something it hasn't done since the Bowtie brand's pony car arrived on the scene last year?

Note: Sales figures above are in thousands.
only reason why Acura does so well in Canada is because of the CSX. Take away the Acura Civic, and they probably sell less cars than Infiniti.

Impressed on how well the Q5 sells within its segment...goes to show how ugly the other vehicles are (GLK sells because its a Merc).
