Are Auto Insurance Ads Getting Out of Hand?
Is it just me, or have any of you noticed how, in the last several months, auto-insurance ads just seem to have gone beserk? They completely flood the TV and radio airwaves round-the clock. No matter if you are watching VHF, UHF, PBS, cable, satellite, digital.......you name it; the same repetitious commercials, over and over again. Green Reptiles, Cave Men, Smooth-Talking Agents, Goofy-Sounding Brunettes, Cartoon-Generals in Boots, Guys walking in and out of bars........on and on and on. I've gotten to the point where I've got so tired of it, day in and day out, that I hit the "Mute" button on the remote now when they pop up.
Either the auto insurance buisness is pouring an enormous amount of money into TV/radio ads, or the competition among them has gotten so intense that it is now just absurd.

It's not just you, I've noticed the same thing and I'm tired of it. .
In fact the 2 companies that do the most advertising are spending a disproportionate amount of money on advertising, so I go out of my way to avoid doing business with them.
Fortunately my driving record, age, marital status, occupation, home address, credit rating allows me other more cost-effective choices for car insurance.

The insurance and medication ads are insufferable!!! Very annoyed with the lizard and caveman, they must've found research claiming that it gets more attention, but seriously they are annoying. And, the whole commercial appeal is quite ridiculous compared to when the real insurance claims, filing etc. has to be done.

Consider the alternative: You can have a provincially mandated insurrance company that you MUST use for all basic insurrance (and you can only get the extra insurrance from someone else.

Well, yes, she's as cute as a high-school sweetheart, but acts and talks like an airhead. Of course, that's all an act, for the cameras, to try and make it look simple to buy into Progressive.
Some of the caveman ads are so vague and corny that it is difficult to figure out just what the theme is, besides the obvious...trying to sell GEICO premiums.
I fully agree on the drug ads (which are often linked to law firms advertising for buisness), but, unlike the auto-insurance round-the-clock blitz, the medication ads seem to be concentrated in two daily time periods....the middle-late part of the afternoon on the TV-court shows, and during the prime-time TV network news in the evening. I didn't get going on those ads in this forum, of course, because I didn't think that CAR CHAT was the proper place for it....that's better reserved for CLUBHOUSE.
