So the 2007 MT Car of the Year place ahead of the 2010 Motor Trend Car of the Year.
And in 2007, the Honda Accord place ahead of the Camry...
Now camry tops it...
mmm, something smells a little fishy

Has MT been a bit vocal against the media frenzy regarding Toyota?
Perhaps this is a part of being somewhat pro-Toyota?
Anyways, they said it themselves:
It seems they want to say that (when all things are considered) it's o.k.

Nobody wants to like this car. Everybody knows it's an automotive appliance and appliances are not fun...

Maybe b/c of all the anti-Toyota mess going on they actually evaluated it fairly and realized its a grand jack of all trades?

This should make a lot of folks here very happy as it seems, for once, an enthusiast mag focused on the mundane requirements of what makes a good family sedan which is what really counts in this segment. Even the editors were begrudging in the final decision but hey, it is what it is.

2010 Camry got a new 4 cylinder engine and 6 speed transmission that it didn't have in 2007.

On the other hand, this MT comparison gave points to cars for more objective reasons that are meaningful to the midsize market, rather than simply slalom times or 0-60 numbers.
They talked about things like the poor damping on the Accord that makes the ride busy and bouncy, or how the Accord's trunk is poorly shaped. You rarely hear these kinds of things mentioned in an Edmunds or C&D comparison.
MT does raise a good point with the Camry:
Nobody wants to like this car.
The Camry won for it's comfortable ride over a variety of roads, it's big back seat, it's trunk, it's ergonomics, and it's user-friendly interior. It won for a lot of objective "real world" reasons that I'm sure many enthusiasts will disagree with.

About Sonata:
so much for those official ratings... wasnt Sonata supposed to be as quiet as Lexus or something?
Yes, we realize GLS and Limited models will ride better, but other shortcomings as a sedan conspired to lower the Sonata's rank. Most editors' noggins contacted the rear ceiling (despite those best-in-class rear headroom figures), the cabin din at 70 mph was second loudest, and access to the roomy trunk is through a smallish opening, thanks to the rear-window placement. The previous model's interior design and ergonomics were also deemed richer looking and more user friendly. It's a terrific car at a great price, but the bar has been raised.

i don't why they tested SE rather than limited. limited would've scored better because it's 70 decibel level is 2nd quietest. SE has nice throaty sound, but it is significantly noisy IMO.
anyway, i strongly disagree with the article. i really can't see camry being #1 at anything except for being the reliability king. i would've scored accord over camry easily.
