I wanted to bump this as this crossed my mind.
We found out recently that 70% of BMW 1 series owners think their car is FWD . Which again shows us the market mostly is about badge and other items.
BMW was smart to protect its image and bring us ONLY the 1 series coupe (and to a lesser extent the convertible). They do not sell their 1 series 3 or 5 door here as Americans do not like luxury hatches, period and small hatches= cheap crap to most Americans.
Lexus is going against conventional wisdom here. While trends show small luxury and higher MPG is in, I am not convinced that we still want small luxury hatches.
So I am really thinking Lexus should have followed BMW here and made the CT a small coupe and leave the Hatch to Europe. Hatches sell in large quantities there and are loved by many. Here not so much.
With the HS and now CT, I am just not convinced these are the right moves. Bring us REAL COUPES!
