MINI is launching an all-new connectivity feature that will debut alongside the 2011 MINI Countryman at next week’s 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Called MINI Connected, the new system offers exclusive options to further enhance the driving experience and keep drivers connected with the outside world.
MINI Connected features a newly developed USB interface that enables a high level of integration of the Apple iPhone and other smartphones as well as offering unprecedented connectivity--at least in terms of cars--with the Internet. All of the functions integrated through MINI Connected with a smartphone can be activated and controlled using the vehicle's existing operating system.
One of the standout features of the system is the new web radio function. Once the vehicle is linked to the outside world via a smartphone, the driver has a choice of radio stations streamed from anywhere in the world, provided the station is available in the extensive station database. MINI is the world's first automaker to offer this feature.
MINI Connected also comes with the latest iteration of the Mission Control module, which made its debut in the MINI 50 Camden anniversary model last year. Mission Control evaluates a vast range of vehicle information, driving situations and vehicle environment-related signals.
The system, for example, may alert the driver with prompts to fasten a seatbelt or guidance on the air conditioning system, or it may provide information relating to the current driving situation and operating status like outside temperatures or fuel tank level.
MINI Connected will make its debut in Geneva next week.
