Default Do you know the true age of your tires?

The tires I purchased new back in September 2009 are dated the 20th week of 2006 (2006). Not so 'new' afterall.

This is a very interesting segment and a definite must watch, if you haven't seen it already. Check your tire dates everyone, especially if you have small children in your car regularly!

The OE Bridgestones are still on my '02 40k mileage Rav4. No signs of wear but it is time for some new rubber due to age.

Ooo, thats not good. I just ordered off of tirerack.com and I was worried that the tires I ordered would be older. I was pleased to see that they were manufactured two months ago.

We checked out the spare on my buddy's 1983 Bimmer a while back and it was dated in the 70s.

In most cases, you want to find a tire shop that frequently works on vehicles of your type. They are likely to move more tires in that size, allowing for older stock to be pushed out and fresh stock to arrive. Of course, it also depend son the supply chain doing the same thing.

Seems they keep showing this story every 2 years lol.

I am surprised that people DO NOT know about this. Pretty common knowledge in AZ. We have to watch it out here because of the insane dryness and hardcore temps we see here. The road surface temps can get into the 150's-160's

Industry standard is to replace the tires after 6 years regardless of wear. So you are ok.
6 yr shelf life and your are only at about 50% shelf life. You know you can usually easily return the tires to most shops. I go to discount tire and they will do anything to keep you happy.

In AZ I think selling or getting older dryer tires is a big deal because of the extreme heat and 2-8% relative humidity

that's actually almost impressive; how does the rubber its self look/feel?

Buddy might consider a new spare next time he does tires.

That's due to the date is only stamped on 1 side of the tire.
