Default Dealer ad in my local paper-new gimmick

My local paper usually runs many dealer ads usually on Thurs,Saturday and Sundays.
The Holidays have had dealer ads every day.
There are many dealers in my NYC metro area.
Today,I see a new sales gimmick at a Ford/Nissan dealer.I'm reading the $0 down low payment BUY not lease costs like $249 on a $33K '10 Edge,$124 on a '10 Focus SE,$179 on an '10 Altima etc.
I say to myself that's way too cheap for a payment.
Small print-Bi-weekly payments.WTF!

Unbelievable. I hope they are quoting monthly payment amount, but stating the payment has to be paid twice per month (half each payment). A poor start to customer satisfaction.

You probably can, but they probably want your soul and first born!

they are hard up for sales right now, but they are not going to give them away. Check the fine print

I used to see similar ads for GM vehicles, that had a very attractive lease payment, and then a "balloon payment" due at the end of the lease of several thousand. Basically, you pay the down payment+interest at the end of the lease.

From what I've seen over the years, dealer ads are questionable at best, and often more insulting to one's intelligence than a politician's campaign promise. In fact, if dealerships would stop spending money on ape-level ads and gimmicks, they could probably afford to discount their cars more for REAL.

Very well stated. I avoid any dealer that tries gimmicks. It truly is an insult to one's intellegence. What is sad is these gimmick ads work or dealerships would not be using them. Many people do not read the fine print and make their way into a dealership. Sales happen when they get people into the showroom.

I believe the purpose of ads like that are to simply attract a customer to a dealership, where the true selling happens.

Too funny. The funniest one I've seen here, in south Florida, was a Honda dealer advertising $99 down and $99 a month, purchase, not a lease. The fine print? It was $99 a month, "FOR THE FIRST TWELVE MONTHS"
