On paper the numbers seem great but its not nearly as aggressive as the GT3

Race car for the streets.. Another car delivered by stork from BMW. Hopefully, it comes to the states.

BMW has been doing a number on Porshe in ALMS with this bully below..

Not quite. The M3 GT2 that races in American Le Mans is more heavily modified than this GTS being offered. The GTS is nothing more than a "E92 M3 CSL" sort of car.

The GT2 race M3 has 485 HP and 368 lb-ft torque, a wide body, a huge race wing, 6-speed sequential race transmission, electronics are controlled by BMW Motorsport ECUs. The race car has no traditional relays or fuses. Also carbon fiber is used extensively on the GT2 race car.

Lastly, the race M3 weighs only 2535 lbs.

Uh.. For real??? I had no idea. Thanks for old news champ.

My original point being if BMW can muscle Porshe on the track, why not on the streets ?

I guess we'll have to see comparisons between the GTS and the GT3 and how they compare. Out of personal preference though, most people would prefer a GT3 over this M3 GTS, and I don't blame them.

If find it hard to believe you "knew" that based on your post.

The GT3 just beat out the R10, Aston V-12 and ZR1 in EVO.

THe last M3 CSL lost to a BASE 911 in EVO years ago.

Both FYI.

To me, its just a welcome addition to the party and I'm glad its produced.

interesting, what caught my eyes is the weight, 3200lb, that's very good. interesting wheel setup, the diameters seem to be different from the normal m3. price is definitely high, but that's just exclusivity imho. and they want to get another model below m3? umm....

Personally I don't want to see another M model below the M3, especially one using the M1 name. That would be sacrilege for a 1-Series type of car to use the M1 name.

A lot of M fans feel the same way as you do... but at least BMW understands that there is no point in creating another supercar that is not easily attainable by anyone. Then again, BMW does not need to bring its sporting brand image up like Lexus or Infiniti, but that's another point entirely.

On the other hand, there would probably be far too much confusion between an M1 supercar and the 1-Series... so it's probably best, in the end, for BMW to make a 1-Series supercar and call it the new M1. Calling it anything else, such as the 135i M or 135i M-Series would confused it with the M-Sport version that is already art (which is an appearance package).

The M fans will probably feel differently about it once this new 'M1' does 0-60 in close to 4 seconds, for 10k less than an M3.

I am am definitely an M fan, but I am still intrigued by the thought of a M 1 Series. The 1 Series in general seems to have gotten its fair share of praises for its overall performance and balance so I, for one, would be very interested in seeing what a M version would be capable of.

All jokes aside, I think its fantastic BMW is offering this vehicle. Great job.
