Regardless of what it is it will kick the ass of most any super car OR exotic car... FACT. By the time you figure it out in your 911, vette, Ferrari, or Lamborghini, it will be lending you its ass for viewing those awesome brake lights.
Nissan should be commended for creating a car that truely has raised the bar in the super car world. Regardless of price its a technical marvel and a dream car that most guys in my generation can actually aspire to owning without having to live in it.

What is my point? Well, let me elaborate my original reply and hope you will get it this time.

Like you said, Nissan met their performance goal, and it *just so happened* the GT-R achieves performance close/equal to some supercars, but THAT ALONE does NOT make it a true supercar.
Calling the GT-R a supercar is actually going *against* past GT-R heritage.
As for admiring the car/giving credit to Nissan, we get the point. There have been limitless threads already on that topic. That is NOT what this topic is about, so there is no need to admire or give respect to the GT-R for the millionth time in the millionth thread. This can be done in numerous other GT-R threads.
|
You can't even stay on the topic yourself. May I remind you about the topic of this thread? It isn't about the Supra, GT2, Porsche Turbo, Veyron, neither it is about the Top Gear or Fifth Gear poll that you kept mumbling on. The question asked to the CL members on Club Lexus Car Chat... GT-R... is it a Supercar but NOT an Exotic? Both? Neither? According to the poll here on CL, the majority of the CL members voted that it IS a supercar. It is that simple. Why can't you just respect CL members opinion (majority by the way) and move on.

Just added to the consensus - supercar but not exotic.
A car is a 'supercar' if its performance is pushing the edge of the envelope for speed, acceleration, and handling of current production vehicles. The GT-R is a landmark car and deserves this title.
I think the true test of an 'exotic' is the reaction of a woman who knows nothing about cars. If there's no reaction, then it's apparent that the car's aesthetics don't inspire passion. I had to point one out to a girl the other day to explain that the car was special, otherwise she'd have no idea.

Sorry, but this test doesn't work. If that were the case, then Beetles or Boxters would be "exotics".

In my example, I stated that she "knows nothing about cars," not "she has horrible taste in cars."

But that is still, fundamentally, an R34. I don't consider the 911 Turbo a true supercar, or even the Corvette ZR-1? Why, because they are all based on *sports cars*.
I guess IMHO for me a true supercar is also something that is built *from the ground up* as a supercar, and not based on a sports car, or using a sports car platform.

I guess using that logic, the Carrera GT isn't really a Supercar or Exotic either since it's fundamentally a Carrera and just another derivative like a 911/911 Turbo/GT-2/GT-3.

I recommend you do a little research before making such comments.
The Carrera GT is a Carrera by name only. It has almost NOTHING in common with ANY other factory production Porsche models.
The Carrera GT is a supercar *built from the ground up*. It's chassis/platform is *completely unique*. It's engine is COMPLETELY unique. NO other Porsche uses the Carrera GT's V10.
I wish Porsche gave the car a different name so silly arguments like this would never happen.

Oh, yeah I forgot the GT-R shares almost every single piece it has with another Nissan. I guess we'll just continue to argue semantics...
I believe that some people should not be able to post in a thread that is GT-R related and others, likewise, LF-A related threads.
Like Milla, I'm done with this thread.

Let's make it so that everybody cannot post in some thread or another .
Also for your information, the GT-R uses/shares quite a bit from the Nissan parts bin. Just thought that people should know.
