I think US Transportation is making a big deal of this...either way this can't be good for Lexus sales.

Definitely more info is needed. The drivers side all-weather mat in the ES350 has already been recalled. The article didn't say anything about non-secured mats being the problem. If properly secured I don't see any way that a mat would come out. Wondering if dealers will inspect for proper installation, or in the case of the mats already removed, will re-install and instruct drivers how to properly install.

The nanny state lives!! This is another item people should be responsible for without having somebody looking over their shoulder. First, people ignored putting on seatbelts and we had ignition lockouts (in the 70's), then those goofy auto retracting belts in the late 80's. Then people were too lazy to check their tire pressure and presto, auto air checking systems on all tires. Now people seem to be too stupid to make sure the floormats aren't blocking the pedals even though hundreds of millions of aftermarket floormats have been sold over the years with no issues. Now one or two cases of accidents means we have to turn ourselves inside out to replace the mats that came with the car. Can't our government just leave us alone for awhile?

Your dealer should read the lexus website:

From the horses mouth.

That said, I don't have the all-weather mats (just the normal ones'), and when properly hooked in I'll be damned if I can figure out how they'd slide forward to do this.

wasn't there an entire website dedicated to this issue awhile ago where some guy recorded his phone calls with the dealer? Looks like Toyota/Lexus finally did something about it.

This is ridiculous, and there will be cheers of "free floormats!" by a bunch of idiots while the price of Lexus vehicles bumps up to make up for this.

I'm probably going to ignore this recall. I took out the carpet floor mats and replaced them with the allweather mats. they havent moved in 2 year its been there, so im not concerned.

Well there are other all weather floor mats for any cars so I don't get why they are targeting only Toyota line. Maybe a government conspiracy to promote buying American cars? just my stupid 2 cents.

Not sure why so many people seem to be panicking. I'm rather hoping my car is on the recall list. My car is 3 years old, and the driver's side floor matt is starting to show some wear.

It actually is a big deal! A lexus ES350 was loaned to a police officer, who was driving with his wife and another member, when the accelerator got stuck. They unfortunately crashed. They all died in the accident. This is what brought up the whole thing. Lexus also uses the mats upside down when using their loaner car, then they place protective mats over those, which makes them lose their grip.

Just check the hooks and you'll be fine. Going to the dealer is a waste of time.

Finally answering the buring question: What happens if you press the ignition on/off button while the car is in motion?
That has been answered many times already Just double check your mats and make sure you only have ONE set and that ONE set is firmly in the hooks.
