Perhaps and Euro-6 emission regulations are indeed brutal. That and in the local market, Japan will be implementing Heisei 22 emission standards in a few more years and thus they'll make the fuel economy tax cuts program more stringent.

It's hard but automakers will have to keep up. Thankfully they seem to rise up to the challenge so that's a positive thing

manufacturers have guns to their heads in the u.s. and europe so they have no choice but to waste i mean spend vast amount of money on this r&d.

it's all based on the insanity of the global warming myth, the decisions NOT to utilize the VAST natural resources AVAILABLE, and ARBITRARY 'environmental' standards such as Europe's trying to drop CO2 'output' a lot in a few years at a cost of trillions, which will make NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER to the earth. (read "Cool It" for more info)

fun suckers rejoice, you're winning. (thank you p.j.o'rourke)

and as the standards get tougher, oh joy we can have more cash for clunkers LOOTING of the wealth producers of the country.
