Default Another MB in last place in another Car and driver comparo

I just found this article from June 09, I am very surprise to see another MB placed last by Car and Driver. I have never been a big fan of the GLK, but I am surprise it got beat by a Volvo.

The fact that the X3 is in 2nd place is absolutely laughable. While the Merc is in last place, the 2nd place finish of a car with an interior comparable to a Kia Rio is more than a little suspect.

They would have probably really preferred for the Bimmer to take 1st place but realized that would raise a few too many eye brows.

Good ole C&D

This is car and driver we are talking about. BMW to car and driver is like Lexus to Consumer report, they get a automatic A.

The RX350 is mid-sized and doesn't really belong to the group of compact utes in this comparo. They should've thrown in the EX35 or the RDX instead but I guess they figured no one would care.

Yes I remember reading this, but as usual I just ignore the rankings in C&D or any comparison test. The tests still had some interesting info.

Btw, the small premium SUV's are really showing poor sales stats (GLK, X3, Q5, RDX), the next size up which is mid-sized continues to sell much better.

I know that Audi is selling every Q5 they can make, there is a waiting list for the Q5 in most dealerships.

I wonder if Audi is keeping supplies low. They're selling about 1k Q5's per month.

For July 1,809 GLK, 1,023 Q5 and 472 X3 (FWIW 7,811 RX).

Sounds impressive, but at 1029 units in July hopefully they can do better, they still haven't caught up to the GLK which sold 1839 units in July. The Q5 certainly is the most stylish of the premium cute-utes.

Note: July sales of some mid-sized SUV's:
RX 7811
MDX 2471

really? i see 2 q5 sitting at dealership the other day

and audi always keep production very low (not necessarily a bad thing) that's why there always seems to have a shortage. i am not sure if that automatically equates good sales in terms of numbers though. but again, not necessarily a bad thing, could mean better gross margin on each car, but doesn't really mean selling "well" in terms of popularity

oh and just for the fun of it, for some reason when i read this thread title i already had a feeling who came in first

Really I don't know why anybody pays attention to the rankings.

Yet the GLK sells in droves, its selling pretty well for now (it is new). People want a cheaper baby Benz even if it stacks up pretty low to the competition.

More power to Mercedes for putting out a lackluster product that consumers want.

The X3 was actually the best driving of the smaller SUV's that we drove. It deserves to be well ahead of the GLK which, imo, was complete and total crap.

Totally agree with you here. The RX is a significant step up from all of the "cute" utes.

I thought the 472 X3's for the month was surprising.
