　トヨタ自動車が世界最小級のスポーツカーを開発していることが１２日、分かった。６月に就任する豊田章男次期社長の肝いりで、深刻な若者の車離れなどに対応するのが狙い。トヨタブランドとしては１０年ぶりの新型スポーツカーで、業績悪化で苦戦する中、新しいファン開拓に攻めの一手を打つ。発売は来年とみられる。【鈴木泰広】

　ベースになるのは、全長２．９８メートルと市販の４人乗り乗用車では世界最短の「ｉＱ（アイキュー）」。６速マニュアル変速機を採用するとともにサスペンションなども改良し、走行安定性を高める見通し。ｉＱはガソリン１リットルで２３キロ走れる燃費のよさも特徴で、環境面にも配慮する。

　関係者によると、超小型スポーツカーの開発は、今月下旬にもアマチュアレースの世界最高峰・独ニュルブルクリンク２４時間レースに自ら出場する章男氏が「走る楽しみを感じてもらえる車を」と指示。旧来型ではなく、環境や燃費への関心も高まっている現代のスポーツカーとして構想されたという。

　トヨタのスポーツカーは９９～０７年に生産・販売されたＭＲ－Ｓが最後で、章男氏はスポーツカー復活への思いが強い。高級車レクサスのスポーツカーＩＳＦは７６６万円、ＳＣは７１０万円と価格が高く、新型車は多くの人が買えるよう２００万円を切る価格に抑えられるとみられる。

We are getting the LF-A, the Toyobaru coupe (which very likely will come with a 6MT) and now this thing. On top of that, the FT-HS is rumoured to be coming to production as an actual Supra replacement.

lol...+1. When I think of a sports car, I think 370Z, Supra, and the like. The Toyota IQ does not fit that description. Sounds like more of the same boring Toyota stuff.

Yes, the Toyobaru coupe is still a go, Akio Toyoda himself said so. We don't even know a thing about the rumoured FT-HS and already people are complaining about it? For all we know it could become as legendary as the Supra.

I think we should at least be happy Toyota is preparing all these sports and sporty cars for the next few years despite the market right now. Other so-called "sporty" automakers like Honda have canceled, or are canceled many of their future sports products.

Toyota has been criticized for not having enough manuals. Now that they're adding more manuals, people are busy looking for something else to criticize.
