if you are going to do a matte black paint job, this is the way to do it. That way when you realize it looks like crap you can just peel it off and be done with it, instead of spending the $ to get it repainted.

I think that looks great! Its hard to believe that's a vinyl wrap - I wish I could examine it close-up.
To me, a matte paint job reminds me of military vehicles. Maybe subconsciously that makes them appear more menacing or serious. Only a few cars can pull it off, and I think the GT-R qualifies.
Find me a matte black Honda Odyssey, and I'll agree that it doesn't look good. : )
