Default Which convertibles have the fastest open/close times?

So, does anyone have (or can create) a list on how fast certain convertible tops (both soft-top and hard-tops) can be opened and closed?

I think the IS-C is claiming to be the fastest hardtop top open/close...

The fastest hardtop convertible I think I've heard of is 16 seconds for the SL-class to retract the roof.

How fast does the IS-C claiming ?

S2000 is the fastest, but then again you have to manually close/open it.

That's not really a spec I care that much about. 30 seconds or 15 seconds... yeah 15 seconds is nicer but in the end I care more than it functions smoothly and reliably. I hate to think of engineers rushing the process for bragging rights but increasing the chance of an expensive failure in the future.

Porsche Boxster (which has a power soft top, fully lined with glass rear window and a defogger) takes 12 seconds up or 12 seconds down. It's plenty fast.

Imagine getting your hand caught in between a rooftop that closes in 2 seconds

It's nice to have something quick, but you will get to the point of diminishing return.

It drops, it chops, yes sounds dangerous too.

I think you should note that the S2000 is indeed powered, just the latches are manual.

I'm pretty certain it's under 10 seconds to power it up or down, I don't remember. Sold my S2000 a while ago.

The Ferrari Superamerica under 10 seconds.

It cheats though because it is just one panel that folds back.

^^^

Yeah, that's a cheater.

I guess we should compare these hardtops:

3-Series
G37
IS-C
SC430
Volvo C70
VW Eos
MB SLK
MB SL
Cadillac XLR
Pontiac G6
Ferrari California

And I can't think of all the softtops right now...

Without question, the Miata's manual fabric-top. I myself have done it in four seconds.....clip and all. If your arm is long enough (mine is), you don't even have to get out of the drivers' seat.
