Default 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss Edition

STUTTGART, Germany — Mercedes-Benz will end production of its SLR supercar in mid-2009 with a limited-edition model in a unique speedster body style that does without a windshield or a roof. Unfortunately, the supercar will not be available in the United States.

The SLR Stirling Moss will be built after SLR Roadster production ends. The special model draws motivation from a powerful V8 and will be wrapped in a unique style. Instead of a windshield, it will have two small wind deflectors, only a few centimeters high. The air inlets behind the seats double as roll bars in place of a roof.

Black-painted ventilation gills on the hood and fenders pay homage to the SLRs piloted by the car's namesake, British racing legend Stirling Moss. As with the SLR Coupe and Roadster, the underbody of the car is closed, while the Stirling Moss has an even larger rear diffuser to improve aerodynamics.

The supercharged V8 makes 650 horsepower, getting the special SLR to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 217 mph. Inside, Mercedes has covered surfaces in a combination of aluminum, carbon fiber and leather.

Just 75 of the Stirling Moss SLRs will be built starting in June 2009, after regular SLR production ends in May. The Stirling Moss will carry a sticker price of $1.04 million.

Inside Line says: Mercedes promises a dramatic finale for the SLR supercar line.

I like the idea, not the execution. Suck a wierd looking speedster. Plus they are making 75 @ 1 million plus and none coming to the US?? I think they might run into some trouble selling these.

Looks really cool and unique but don't like how it's not a vert and wind is going to be blowing constantly at me if I'm driving

It looks great, however I think the driving experience will be weird! Driving almost on the rear changes everything, how you take a turn, etc.

QFT, I agree entirely. I can see what they wanted to do, but I think they messed up horribly in the process. The idea has great potential, but the body of that car is just plain down right ugly.
