2009 CTS-V to start nearly loaded at $59,995 (compare to M5 @ $90,000!)
Not only does it perform better than the M5 in a straight line and on the road course, but it has a much nicer more comfortable interior (IMO), most likely will have less expensive repairs/maintenance throughout its life, plus it's a screaming bargain when you consider that the M5 starts at 85k and when comparably equipped to the CTS-V's standard equipment comes in at 90k... that's 50% more expensive!
DETROIT – The 2009 CTS-V, Cadillac’s 556-hp expression of ultimate performance and luxury, begins production this month with initial sales beginning around November 1. The latest in the brand’s V-Series of high performance models, the new CTS-V is intended to reach the top of the world’s most desirable luxury cars, at a starting price of $59,995 in the US market.
“The launch of the new CTS-V presents a compelling proposition for luxury and performance enthusiasts,” says Mark McNabb, North America vice president, Cadillac/Premium Channel. “The CTS-V is a strong statement about Cadillac design and technology and a new member in the club of the highest performing luxury cars.”
The CTS-V, based on Cadillac’s critically acclaimed CTS sports sedan, expresses the full extent of the brand’s dramatic design and technology. Designed to enter the stratosphere of the world’s fastest and most exclusive luxury sedans, CTS-V includes advanced performance technology such as a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine and Magnetic Ride Control, the world’s fastest reacting suspension.
The new CTS-V comes standard with a nearly complete collection of features, including a hand-crafted cabin, a 6-speed manual transmission and a Bose surround sound system with a 40-gigabyte hard drive with a USB port. In addition there are a few options available, including a new 6-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted shift buttons, 14-way adjustable Recaro performance seats, microfiber interior accents and a large “Ultra-View” sunroof.
“Along with the new Escalade Hybrid, the CTS-V is a key aspect in Cadillac’s ongoing renaissance, with dramatic designs and very sophisticated technologies for luxury consumers,” McNabb said. “These two new high-tech Cadillac models pave the way for a series of new Cadillac models coming in 2009, including the upcoming CTS Sport Wagon and SRX Crossover.”

Crazy. If I were in the market for a new car and had $60K to blow, this would be it. I hope people line up for this car.
This is what we've been asking for and GM has finally delivered. Don't let them down folks!!! GM stock is at $6.43 right now. Let's help them out guys.

That is an amazing deal and for the price, you cannot beat it!!! It certainly has more horses than the M5, but I think it is better to compare to the M3, C63, IS-F and then watch the competition heat up!

I see the CTS as a car that really could be compared to either the IS-F/M3/C63/RS4 based on price, or could be compared to the M5/E63/RS6 based on size.
Size wise it's almost as close of a match as you could possibly ask for to the M5. Compare...
Wheelbase/Length/Width/Height
CTS-V: 113.4/191.6/72.5/57.3
M5: 113.7/191.5/72.7/57.8
IS-F: 107.5/183.5/71.5/55.7
Interior room plays out similarly as well.
Price-wise it's almost a direct match to the IS-F, as the IS-F with nav/lev has an MSRP of 59,990. M3 is still a good bit more expensive.
So I can see how it could be compared to either class of vehicle but I say either way it comes out looking like a massive bargain.

So far the new CTS hasn't seen nearly as much depreciation as other Caddies have... I haven't seen any year-old 15k mile 2008 CTSs for any sort of bargain price. But time will tell as another year or two goes by. Since I can't afford to be throwing 60k around at a car anytime soon anyway I guess I would only hope they depreciate quickly, making them an excellent used car buy.
