Thumbs up Honda Civic is the Best Selling Vehicle in the United States

Folks, today is a historic day in automotive history: The Honda Civic was the best selling car in the United States in May, beating out the long time leader, the Toyota Camry, by 53,299 [Civic] to 51,291 [Camry].

What's even more amazing is that the Toyota Corolla even beat out the Camry, 52,826 to 51,291.

And to make Honda's achievement even more amazing, it beat out the Ford F-150, long the best selling vehicle, by 53,299 [Civic] to 42,973 [F-150] (Note -The F150 was not first in April either).

Today is a great day in Honda land, indeed, and congrats are well deserved.

Actually, I think it's more amazing that the Camry and Corolla are within each other's range. The Camry just cost more all across the board compared to the Corolla.

It's a feat for the Honda civic because it usually cost more than a comparable Corolla.

Congratulations to Honda, I know several people who bought the new civic including two of my cousins and they love it, my neighbor at my apartment complex had a SI coupe and it was very nice looking and looked very fun to drive. Still I actually prefer cars that don't sell in huge numbers and are fairly rare and not seen at almost every stop light. I like how I rarely see a second gen GS430 when I drive around and how none of my friends currently own one, it makes it more unique to own this car.

I think the civics sales increase is due to the first time drivers...and the SI appeals to many since its pretty cheap for its performance...

What do you mean by first time drivers? It wouldn't make sense because there are many many other cars out there that are suitable for first time drivers. The Civic sold well in May simply because people love it and have for decades. Gas price nowadays turn people to more economic cars.

I think its actually the other way around. Civic, and generally all small economy cars are increasing in sales due to the gas prices and mileage factor. Many people who have long moved on from cars like the Civic and Corolla are looking at and buying them again.

Quite amazing, wow, that is A LOT of cars in one month, great time to be a Honda salesman. The Civic has sold okay, it was being outsold by the OLD Corolla until recently.

Just wow. Also let us remember the F-150 is at teh END of its product cycle.

Look for more months like this for Honda. They are smart as they shifted more production to build the Civic.

Here's probably one of the reasons why King Camry was knocked out of first place.

The painted-silver plastic dash/console on the present-generation Camry is junk. The round ***** you see in the picture wobble and feel like they are going to fall off when you actually grab and turn them.

The Civic is an excellent choice for a small fuel efficient car.

That would probably be my choice as well if I needed a small 2nd car.

Matrix & Corolla #s are combined.

As for the Camry: yes, the current generation's interior looks cheap IMHO but it does not appear to really have a negative effect on sales. Perhaps it stunted a bigger increase but the Camry has continued to sell at .7% better so far this year.

Also, I think that a shout out needs to go to the GS which seems to be holding off the Infiniti M this year. Altho the Caddy seems to making a move ....

100% in agreement.

The exterior of the Camry has grown on me, but the interior is just not class competitive.

Shouting that out is like congratulating someone on finishing 7th in a sprint because they beat the competitor that came in 8th.
