Additives don't burn (well they do, but they don't produce energy when they do so). They can't give you better fuel economy. Well I take that back. They can't give a clean, well-maintained engine better fuel economy.

Didn't Chevron buy the EV1 battery technology from GM which ultimately destroyed the extended range the original electric cars were getting?

Despite whatever mileage gains I could get from using Chevron, I would never support a company that would buy and hold this tech from helping to develop cleaner alternatives to their ridiculously priced fuel.

I agree, it does matter. Prius owners don't take perception too seriously, they have hard facts to back up their spreadsheets.

Well....yes and no. As you point out, we have discussed gas brands, octane, and additives many times, but not at these record-high prices. At these empty-your-wallet prices, more people apparantly are tempted to turn to cheap, cut-rate gas brands, which lack addititives, and can often do more harm underhood than the little money they save.
