2010 Lexus Hybrid drawings
Highly doubt it will look anything like that, but I dont think we had a thread about this upcoming car yet(though we have talked about it).

Lexus Prius/Hybrid
Source: MagX
- Prius using Toyota's MC platform has been seen testing with the Auris front noze
- Next Prius will be using the 1.8L 2ZR engine instead of 1NZ
- Lexus will have a version of the Prius which is planning on debuting during late 2010/early 2011
- The Lexus will have the roofline profile similar to that of the Prius however have distinct Lexus styling in sync with the "L-finesse" design language.
- The Lexus version would cost over $30k and obviously be equipped with luxury amenities; current internal code for the car is 812L
- Due to cost reasons the next-gen Prius should still be using NiCAD batteries. However, Toyota has had a Lithium-ion Vitz hybrid in limited production for awhile, and the Lexus version may be equipped with Li-On batteries due to the higher selling price would allow enough margin to incorporate the more expensive batteries.

I think you mean NiMH not NiCd.

What Lexus is that in the bottom right hand corner? It looks interesting.

Nice to hear that Lexus is getting a "real" hybrid. I think the performance hybrids out now are nice but also think that people will want a Lexus that gets mileage that approaches Prius like numbers.

I mean, Im sure it will look like an ungraded new Prius...I am sure it will sell, I am sure I won't like it at first, I'll get it as a loaner a few times, and then learn to appreciate it.

haha basically a smoother, cleaner looking prius..
that car on bottom right looks a lot like an IS/GS remix to me, but the headlights are throwing me off.
if lexus starts production on a performance-type hybrid i will jump on that!! trade in the 350

That's a horrible drawing. I'm pretty sure the Lexus hybrid won't look like that.

Yeah I hope it looks a lot more upscale than that...looks too much like a rebadged Prius.

I understand that the Prius is designed with the best possible aerodynamics in mind to help fuel efficiency. The Lexus version, getting a "luxury" badge, however, should afford to trade a little bit of aerodynamics for a sleeker/sexier exterior shape. Something like the Honda FCX concept should be a nice compromise between aerodynamics and a reasonably good looking/sleek design. The rendering in the magazine above will definitely not do it for Lexus that's for sure.
I do like the idea of keeping the Prius affordable by leaving the Li-ion batteries only to Lexus hybrids though. Makes good economic sense to me.

BTW, the title for the car in the bottom right of the first pic says "Lexus version of hybrid-only car, to debut in the summer of '09" (I happen to know Kanji and the Japanese words for "Lexus" and "hybrid" ), but the car depicted looks just like an IS, which is definitely not a hybrid-only car. I do hope they come out with an IS hybrid though, particularly with Li-ion batteries not eating up too much trunk space.

I doubt that drawing has much really connection to the Lexus hybrid. The US mags have already reported that the Lexus model will be based on the next gen Prius but will have a different body contour. They have reported it to be "squarer" more like a station wagon but not much follow up. But the battery issue is pretty interesting. Toyota hasn't been as big a fan of current LiON but maybe the differentiator for the Lexus is that, at least for a short time, the Lexus gets the smaller LiON battery relative to Toyota versions. Makes sense and is a pretty interesting thought.

Doesn't Lexus already have hybrids out the wazoo? What's the point of this car?

None of them are focused on MPG. They tout more power not economy.
