Default ABT Shares New Pics of Audi AS6 Sedan

Click here to view more photos

One of the best looking yet inconspicuous mid-size luxury sedans on the market is sitting quietly in a parking structure in Orange County, California.

ABT Sportsline mentioned that they've received a lot of positive feedback about this car, which is why they decided to share a few more images with us, and we don't mind at all.

The A6 is a good looking car even without the extra body work (front & rear spoilers, quad exhausts, rear wing, lowered suspension and ABT DR alloys).

Since we're looking at US plates, this could very well be the 3.0 liter 310HP TFSI model, which for the fair price of €3,590, can be bumped up to 410 HP with a little bit of ABT chip tuning magic.

Not bad considering you'd be getting about as much horsepower as you would in an Audi S6.

One day I'll get a car that can use a magic chip

Default Low demand forces Audi to kill the A6 Hybrid

Only 4,000 units were sold

Audi has decided to discontinue the A6 Hybrid after abysmal sales since the model's introduction back in 2011.

The A6 family was recently facelifted by Audi but without any word about the hybrid derivative which now we found out has been terminated. After spending around three years on the market, only 4,000 units were sold so Audi decided that it's better to axe the model rather than include it in the refreshed family.

We remind you the A6 Hybrid makes use of a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter TFSI engine delivering 211 HP (155 kW) and working together with a 45 HP (33 kW) electric motor to provide a combined output of 245 HP (180 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. It's enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 148 mph (238 km/h).

As far as fuel consumption is concerned, it stands at 6.2 liters / 100 km (38 mpg US or 45 mpg UK) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 142 g/km and an electric range of just 1.9 miles (3 km).

Audi Drops A6 Hybrid After It Found Just 4,000 Buyers

Did an Audi A6 Hybrid sound like a guaranteed hit to you? Even if it did, Audi has given up on it after just three years.

The A6 Hybrid won't be part of the facelifted A6 and A7 lineups that were announced in September, according to a Car&Driver story.

The hybrid version of Audi's most popular sedan was powered by a gasoline 2.0-liter turbo four teamed with a 33kW electric motor, with a net output of 245 horsepower and a significantly smaller trunk.

The magazine reported just 4,000 A6 Hybrids were sold worldwide, 80 percent of which went to Asian markets. The hybrid was supposed to be destined for the U.S., traditionally a much stronger market for gas-electric hybrids than Europe, back in 2012 with a price tag of about $55,000. Instead, Audi gave the U.S. federalized versions of its A6 TDI with the 3.0-liter, 240-horsepower turbodiesel V6 for 2013.

The company is apparently following Porsche's method of going after plug-in hybrids, so expect an e-tron version of the A6 sometime in the future.

Something tells me the U.S. got the better end of the deal with the TDI instead of the hybrid. And considering how often you see its rivals, the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 and Mercedes E400 Hybrid, Audi probably made the right decision.

Default Audi's Facelifted A6, S6, RS6 and Allroad Say Bonjour to Paris

Click here to view more photos

Among the many refreshed models making their first public appearance at the Paris Motor Show is Audi's 2015MY A6 family, including the S6, RS6 and Allroad variants.

It's not your typical facelift with dramatic cosmetic revisions, as Audi kept the exterior tweaks limited to small changes to the grille, headlights, air inlets, bumpers, side sills, rear lights and tailpipe finishers.

The Germans also added new headlights with LED technology or Matrix LED technology, combined with dynamic turn signals, on the cars' options list.

On the inside, besides the new colors, Audi updated its infotainment systems, with the top-of-the-line navigation unit with the power-retractable 8-inch monitor now running on the faster Tegra 30 graphics chip from Nvidia. Improvements were also made to a number of driver assistance systems.

Finally, Audi tweaked the engine range of the regular A6 models reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption on certain diesels, adding a new 3.0-liter TDI available with 218PS (215hp) or 272PS (268hp) and revising the 3.0 TFSI.

The 4.0-liter TFSI biturbo V8 in the performance S6 and RS6 models remains unchanged delivering 450PS (444hp) and 560PS (552hp) respectively.

Default New ABT Audi RS6-R has 720HP, Because You Know, It Wasn't Fast or Powerful Enough

The already ludicrous Audi RS6 Avant has just become even more insane, courtesy of a tune from ABT Sportsline that takes the standard model's 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 from 552hp (560PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) to a stratospheric 720hp (730PS) and 920Nm (678 lb-ft) of peak torque for a top speed of 320km/h (199 mph).

To achieve these figures, ABT says it mounted a new control unit to the engine along with a specially adapted stainless steel exhaust system, including a Y-pipe and sport-type catalytic converter. The Germans claim that it delivers a "superb sound", but we would like to hear it for ourselves…

With the "R" package, you also get a height adjustable spring kit and massive 22-inch ABT DR-style alloy wheels wrapped in Dunlop high-performance tires, and an assortment of aero parts made of exposed red carbon, such as the front spoiler lip with blades, air inlet covers, side skirt attachments with blades and a roof spoiler.

ABT addressed the interior as well, decorating the dashboard, center console and door panels with dark red carbon fiber trims and added carbon-shift paddles and LED-shifting lights to the steering wheel.

We'll see the new ABT RS6-R for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show.

Default New Audi RS6 Avant Clubsport By MTM Has 760PS

The third and final Geneva Motor Show world premiere from German tuners MTM is the Audi RS6 Avant Clubsport that will join the firm's S3 426 and S8 Talledega S.

Beginning with the serial model's 560PS (552hp) and 700Nm (516.2 lb-ft) 4.0-liter TFSI biturbo V8, MTM's engineers rework the turbocharger, exhaust and ECU to give the RS6 Clubsport 760PS (750hp) and 945Nm (697 lb-ft) of peak torque.

Whereas the standard RS6 Avant hits 100km/h (62mph) in 3.9 seconds and is electronically limited to 250km/h (155mph), MTM's Clubsport reaches 100km/h in 3.2 sec, 200km/h (124mph) in 10.3 sec and 280km/h (174mph) in 31.2 sec, while freely topping out at 339km/h (211mph).

The rest of the tune includes carbon fiber mirror caps and engine cover, an Individual interior with new leather upholstery, carbon fiber seat backs and other upgrades, a set of 21-in Bimoto lightweight alloys shod in 295/30 Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber, an F-Cantrornic air suspensipon module, Ceramic Carbon brakes, and LED door lights.

If you tick all the boxes, the Clubsport is priced at €183,931 ($205,600) in Germany, including the cost of a new Audi RS6 Avant.

Default 'Daytona Gray Matte' ABT RS6-R Facelift Heading to Geneva

Not to be outdone, ABT is bringing their facelifted 730 HP RS6-R to Geneva, rivaling MTM's RS6 Clubsport, even though it's down on power by just 20 horses.

Besides its power, ABT is also showcasing the RS6-R's "Daytona gray matte" paintwork, saying that this estate's engine is "more powerful than the NASCAR racers over there in America".

Which is true, obviously. And then there's its 320 km/h top speed, which is also down on what MTM has done with their RS6 Clubsport. But we prefer ABT's version as far as the looks department is concerned.

”On this fit occasion, with new lamps for example, our extensive body kit really comes into its own,” said ABT CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt. We do love the carbon fiber bits, like the front lip blades and the air inlet trims, the side skirts, mirror covers and the rear spoiler. Most of all we love the all-new 22" FR alloys - which are also set to premiere in Geneva.

ABT used their Power S kit in order to turn what were initially 560 HP, into 730 HP. Therefor it can get from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds (only 0.1 sec slower than MTM's RS6).

Considering the fact that this is arguably the better looking of the two, we wouldn't shy away from saying this might be the greatest Audi RS6 Avant ever made.

must try harder to notice 2015 updates.

still, they have a dozen or so engine choices, tons of options, and TONS of after market support, which is awesome.
hybrid fail is no surprise.

Wow... didn't they just update the headlight? They both look very nice. I was hoping the tail would get some changes too.
Didn't know I was looking at the new A7

I've never heard or seen any Audi A6 hybrid offered in the U.S. It's never been on their US website either. Must be for other markets.

Is the bezel around that screen really that big? I'm hoping the pictures at the Carscoops link is the non-nav version

Default 2016 Audi A6 Named IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus

The Audi A6 has received a top safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Audi had to modify the 2016 A6 to make sure it would perform well in the small overlap crash test, so rating only applies to cars built after January of 2015. Top marks across the board mean that the 2016 A6 has been named a Top Safety Pick Plus by the IIHS.

In the small overlap test, the maximum intrusion was four-inches at the foot rest, leaving plenty of space for the driver. The airbags controlled the dummy’s movement easily and overall, the IIHS says there is a low risk of injury in this type of crash.

The small overlap test replicates what would happen if a car strikes a tree or telephone pole with only 25 percent of its face overlapping the obstacle.

Audi’s front crash prevention system on the A6 allows it carry the ‘plus’ moniker. The IIHS says that the vehicle reduced its speed by 10 mph in the lower-speed test thanks to automatic braking, but only reduced speed by 1 mph in the high-speed test, not enough to earn any credits. Still, the A6 earned an advanced rating for its front-crash avoidance technology.
