I love the Pop ups!
A lot of the BMW 8 owners (who dont like pop ups) actually change their FTPs (front bumper lights) to run as low beams.
and then theres DINAN who built an 850csi hood that took the pop ups out all together
Sleepy eyes would look hella sick!
Oh, The headlight motors DO tend to go out tho

I miss the pop-up lights which were very popular on many sports cars in the 80s and early 90s such as Mazda RX-7, Honda NSX, Chevrolet Corvette, etc.....But right now all the headlights become fixed ones, not that I don't like them, but I still want to see a few new sports car with automatic pop-up headlights with HIDs. I know it might not be good for drag coefficient, but when everybody doesn't do it, you would look special when you do. And may be the automakers could think about a crystal/transparent shell for the headlights. when the car is off and when the headlights are off, it looks just like regular headlights similar to C6 Corvette's, but once the headlights are turned on, the headlights flip 360 degrees and becomes a pop-up lights with transparent shells, wow it might look nice(I think). Yeah it would increase the production cost and endanger the long-term reliability, but still I wish to see something like it in the future. What do you think? A bad idea or not?
Hopefully they come back!

I run HID's in my headlights and LED's in my sidemarkers. Marked improvement.
I don't know about pop ups in new cars. Perhaps if they were extremely low popups that matched the new lighting technology...

With today's technology, the plastic could be molded in almost any shape, may be the pop-up lights could have more style also, unlike before, it doesn't have to be a trianglular thing and rectangular in the front anymore, and it doesn't have to be flipped up, it could be popped up, flipped up, slided out, tilted out, haha, very interesting.

One thing about todays cars is the plastic headlights that have to be polished from scratches and road debris
I want to build a new headlight housing for my 8 series and retro-fit HID's.
The motors in mine havent gotten bad....but then again, I only put a few hundred miles per year on it

Porsche 928 had some interesting pop-ups
not that great looking but interesting at least
i loved Lotus Esprit when it had popups
it made the whole front profile so sleek
it is true that manufacturers do not use pop-up designs anymore for aerodynamic reasons
but why would u want to drive so fast at night anyways?
