I know we may be getting into semantics here, but, despite power and handling, technically, none of the vehicles on the list is a true sports car (they are sports-sedan or coupe-based), although the GTR comes close...it is a borderline sports car. The Alfa that Sieze posted is a sports car...but it was not on the list.

As far as sports-ORIENTED cars go, I guess the new Challenger is what I am waiting to see the most. It is high on my review list when it becomes available (I'm not holding by breath...the first several months will likely be sold out).

As far as PURE sports-cars go, I'd have to say the new Acura NSX. We've all heard SO much about this car, and so many wild-goose stories and pictures that turned out not to be true, that it will really be interesting to see what the final car actually DOES look like.....and drive like. The only real info we know about it now is that, like the Viper, it will probably have a V10.

There's some truth in that. http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/2-11-2006-88657.asp

But the OP doesn't limit it to any definition of sports car anyway.

That may be true, but I'm still curious to know how mmarshall would clasify the GTR, if not a sports car. Why would the NSX be a "true" sports car but not the GTR? Both fast, both tuned for handling rather than comfort, both are coupes, they seem to be identical in every way that matters but yet one is a true sports car and the other isn't?

I'd like to hear the rationale for how the GT-R is not a true sports car too. I'm hard pressed to think of any other production car which could be more a sports car. I'm mean, by that measure is the 911 not a sports a either?

From reading forums and mags including JDM ones:
Purists will balk at AWD, all the tech and the heavy weight of the GT-R.
The NSX is as pure as they come. RWD, N/A and lightweight.

THing is the last 2 gens were tit for tat in performance. It was all about HOW you wanted to feel it. Neither way is wrong.

Let us focus on cars we anticipate for 08/09 and not trying to prove the GT-R is a sports car okay.

OK, guys.....you might have me on that one. Maybe I could have phrased it a little differently. The last GT-R was based on a sedan platform, but since the new one will share a platform with the 350Z, you CAN call it a sports car. I'll rephrase my stand on that.

But I still think that the most anticipated sports car will actually be the NSX, considering all the wild-goose stories and pictures we've seen about it and what it will be like. True, many of us have anticipated the GTR as well, but at least we know a lot more about the GTR. The new NSX, when it finally debuts, will put a LOT of rumors and gossip to rest.

See? I'm not stubborn. I'm willing to change or correct past posts if they are wrong or questionable.

The list only includes those close to be production ready. Any conceptual and cars still in their early design stage weren't included.

Lexus LFA, Nissan GTR, Acura NSX/ASC if it ever comes out, possible RX-7 replacement, Alfa 8C, Masserati Coupe,Aston DBS, are the ones I most anticipate but I would say the sports cars from Japan interest me the most because I can probrably see myself owning one in the future where the others are out of my price range or will most likely be too unreliable when they are in my price range and not worth the investment.

Fair enough... I can accept the "revised" version.
