How about 3000 lbs, put the I-4 in the tC in it, make the S/C standard and ensure it is RWD.

Comparing a low end BMW to a low end Toyota are two completely different niches. If they can make a Toyota corolla 2500lbs, then I would expect similar numbers with this new AE86. The Toyota Yaris hatch is 2300 lbs, so a RWD 2200 lbs goal maybe a bit unreasonable.

That would be like putting a 2JZ in a Miata or Solstice. It really can't be done. The BMW 135 is a bloated pig of a car. They claim it's the reincarnation of the 2002, but that's a lie. It weighs almost as much as a dang 3-Series! Yeah, the 135 is a reincarnation of the 2002 like the new LandCruiser is a reincarnation of the '67 Stout.

Don't worry, half the stuff that is standard on the 1-Series won't even be an option on this car, so that should help keep the weight down.

As I said before, a well-equipped version that appeals to the mass-market and will likely have the most sales will probably come in at close to 2700 or 2800lbs., which is still OK. But a stripped-down, "tuner-ready" version could make it here at 2400lbs. for about $16K. You won't be getting much equipment/refinement/comfort/luxury at that price, but at least it will be a solid CAR, closer to the Porsches and Ferraris of the 60s than the leather-clad, Bluetooth-enabled "sports cars" of today. Think of it as a poor man's Lotus.

As long as Toyota makes a sporty fun to drive two door i dont care if its FF, FR or AWD. And lets hope people actually buy it Toyota enthusiasts begged for cars like the Celica GTS and the Corolla XRS and then didnt buy them.

Like others have mentioned, $12-$13K will never happen for such a car because if it did, it would basically eat Scion alive. If it happens, I'm thinking the 17-20K range, just because if it's any lower it will be competing directly with the tC which seems like it would be roughly the same size and dimensions, and similar power.

Lots of stuff with these "rumors" that won't really come into fruition IMO.

I didn't mean to imply it can't be physically, but question why anyone would do it from a conceptual/logical standpoint. It just makes no sense to me personally. You don't need the 600-1000HP of the 2JZ in a car that weighs under 2500lbs. It would be useless unless you want to built an out-and-out drag machine, in which case you should just be working on a Supra anyway.

If the power is 130 hp and it creeps up to 3,000 lbs, my '85 AE86 GT-S will run rings around it. I'm sure Toyota doesn't want that.

True. Given the price point, as long as they keep the weight down and make the handling as sharp as the MR-S, I can care less about power. Being able to take those ramps at 80mph will be fun enough.
