Best automotive audio sound system in the world?
Is it Mark Levinson, or Bang & Olufsen?
Im doing a research paper for an MBA class on how this is now becoming more and more of a competition in luxury automotives and being used as a competitive advantage/strategic advantage in ways.
Doing preliminary research, B & O has been named worlds best, however some articles point to LS460's sound system by Mark Levinson as the industry leading benchmark... im confused...please give your thoughts... if there IS a winner in this right now.
thanks

Here's what Edmunds decided...repost of mine:
Let's just say...ML owns:
http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/...7/article.html
And now with the LS 460 L the trend continues:

I also visited another auto audiophile site which agreed...
Let's just say...ML owns:
Top 10 Sound Systems Over $30,000:
1. Lexus LS 430
This sound system, which was introduced in 2001, could be the best on the market. In fact, if we could give it an 11, a la Spinal Tap, we would — it's that good. It comes with 11 speakers, 240 watts of clean RMS power and sound quality second to none. Audiophiles will note that Mark Levinson uses the true RMS rating, which legitimizes this system's quality, as opposed to the peak power rating that other makers use. Not exactly a household name, Mark Levinson is a high-end home stereo manufacturer owned by Harman International (the same company that brings you Harman Kardon, JBL and Infinity). Several years ago, the company dispatched its engineers to Japan to work with the Lexus folks on a truly integrated sound system. The results are simply stunning.

Conclusion: The Mark Levinson Reference Surround Sound system is the industry standard for in-car audio. It has just the right combination of features, dynamic sound quality, clarity and ease of use to make it the front-runner in an emerging sea of next-generation premium car audio systems.

What kind of answer do you expect from a Lexus forum?....Honestly.
If you asked this question in an Audi forum you would get B&O and in a Lexus forum you are going to get people saying the ML.
They are both amazing systems and are very comparable, although the B&O system wows you a bit more with its' pop-up tweeters and woofer while providing amazing sound quality.

I've been into audio long enough to know that there is not one single brand out there that will be the "best" in all cars. When you are at that higher end of the audio spectrum, the difference is not that big. It's the car environment that will dictate frequency response and such. Take the LS460 system and stick it into the ES350. I guarantee you that it wont sound the same.
Also, for the purist out there, they prefer a true Left and Right source, not 19 speakers all around you. That's for the surround system fanatics. More speaker does not mean better sound. Some people like having lots of speakers because it has that surround effect that tickles their tummy. Someone like me can't stand anything that's more than a Left/Right channel source. Clearly this shows how subjective this topic is. The question is equally as debatable as: "Who makes the best engines?"
