BMW's 4-Door Coupe Mercedes CLS rival could arrive in 2009 . . .
03 November 2006
• A four-door saloon with a coupe roofline
• VW and Audi also considering four-door coupes
BMW is thought to be preparing a four-door coupe to rival the Mercedes CLS.
Although BMW hasn't said anything official about the car, it's expected to go on sale in 2009. Our computer artists have lifted the lid on what the car is likely to look like.
Initially, industry rumours were that the car could have reverse-opening rear doors, like the Mazda RX-8, but latest thinking suggests they will be conventional affairs similar to those on the Mercedes.
BMW isn't the only manufacturer lining up a four-door coupe. Volkswagen and sister-company Audi are both preparing a wave of new niche models and have CLS-style coupes high on the list.

The thing is, the CLS looks nothing like any other MBZ's in their line up, you confuse it with absolutely nothing. This BMW looks like a 3series with a high belt line. I'll stick with the coupe I already have thank you.

uh huh....
The CLS' interior isn't exactly impressive. I've sat it in at the autoshow and some of the switches don't exude a luxury feel to them. If blindfolded, I probably wouldn't have guessed it was a Cdn$100k+ car. The matte wood trim also reminds me of the glued-on paper woodtrim in the Caprice and 80s Taurus.
The S-Class, on the other hand, had superbly comfortable front seats.
