Corolla Verso in Europe - Spacio in Japan - Pontiac Vibe in the US
The Corolla based minivan known as the Verso in Europe has been on the market since January 2001 and now an all new model is now being developed as the replacement.
Here are first time prototype shots of the new “world” car during hot weather testing in the United States. Among the test cars the engineers had one prototype on steel wheels which appears to be a standard model.
The second prototype has sporty alloy wheels with low profile tires, aerodynamic lower body sill extensions with a scoop just in front of the rear wheels, thus indicating that this is a high-performance sports model.
Since the Verso/Spacio/Vibe will be an all new car, one can expect at least an upgrade of the current engines, if not a couple of new ones in addition. Its predicted launch has been moved up for mid 2007 as a 2008 model year.

No way is that the next Verso. It's obvious it has a slant rear window like a liftback/hatchback versus the more upright window of a mini-MPV.
Also, if you look carefully, the actual hood is swoopier than the disguise would like you to think. The disguise is designed such that the front looks flat.
Lastly, note the two models - alloys + moonroof and steelies + roof rack.
I'm willing to bet that the upscale models has the more powerful engine (maybe the next Vibe GT/Matrix XRS) and the other is testing the standard engine. Although, that wouldn't quite make sense since the new XR engine (1.8 litre) is already out on the new Corolla.

That's why there's a little sense of the Vibe in there since the
Vibe is Matrix based.
I don't imagine Toyota will already drop the "Matrix" name for the
US market. This definately has to be it.
