Disturbing styling trend
I've noticed this trend lately. More and more cars are being designed with this awful trait. Can we please stop the madness? Here are some of the worst offenders and examples, like our own GS, of vehicles that don't have to rely on this styling crutch.
The Maxima:
Civic:
HHR:
These slab sided monstrosities, specifically around the wheels, used to be much smaller. I think cars look better without them but they seem to be growing in size and number of uses.
Here are a couple of examples of, IMO, a nicer look:
GTO:
Marauder:
GS:
Notice no extra 2-3 inch "lip" around the wheels. GM does pretty well with many their latest designs having only a very small "lip" but more and more 2" or greater ones are showing up on new designs, just look around when you drive.
Stop the madness!
Okay... I feel better. Next project too much wheel gap.

Im not liking that trend either. Im glad that the new GS and LS dont have that lip your talking about. I wonder how you feel about the new S-class.

I give it a partial pass. The sides aren't a slab side and you could argue that the rear is more of a flared fender look but it is defintely something that has to grow on me.
Feel free to post your examples of either style as well.

lol by lookin at the pics i thought u were talking about 5 spokes rims... but upon further expection i get what you mean. though i do like the flares if the car is a wide body car like the m3.

I don't like the new stlying either. It is sad as it indicates to me that companies did not do any consumer research into this. I just can't imagine that majority would like this stuff.

Are you saying that you like smooth fenders and hate fender flairs?? Do you mean you hate those flat edged fenders like in the first pic?? Not exactly sure what you are trying to describe, but I'll take a shot at what I think your talking about.
I noticed you used this one...
To a lesser extent...
If that is what you mean, then there are sooo many cars with that fender style.
Doesnt bother me much, hell I barely even noticed it, until you brought it up.

I don't know. It didn't bother me until you mentioned it. What really bothers me is overexaggerated fender flares <ahem> S-Class.
