EXCLUSIVE PICTURES - We reveal the new V70!
In the present issue of the paper magazine Teknikens Varld (21/06) we showed exclusive drawings of the next generation Volvo V70. Now "The Car spy" can reveal the more or less production ready peoples-Volvo (most sold car in Sweden, Henkan) with the help of some newly taken spy pictures.
The pictures are taken inside the Volvo factory and shows that there is very little left before it's world debut in Geneva in march next year. The white V70 T5 AWD in the pictures is a pre-production car and clearly shows the similarities between the next V70 and the new Volvo S80, that premiered on this years saloon.
The front will be different while the hood, front fenders and front doors will be the same as on the S80. From the rear doors and backwards is where the changes are made. The rear is dominated by the, to say the least, complex taillight arrangement and it’s design is a combination of the C30, the V50 and the new S80. The upper part of the taillights are vertical (V50), while the bottom parts look like the new S80. At the same time the framing of the rear window and the metal beneath it is shaped like the smaller C30. The hatch is angled somewhat inwards at the top and bottom which gives it a hexagonal shape, here the designer team clearly looked at the old Volvo 145/245 for inspiration. The upper part of the taillights also accompanies the hatch when opened.
The axel, grows eight centimetres compared to today’s V70 into a whole 284 centimetres. The rear seat will become a lot bigger in the new V70, which is necessary when you compare it to for example it’s competitor the Audi A6 Avant. According to our sources the rear overhang will shrink, but the luggage compartment will still become somewhat bigger.
The interior will be identical with the S80, which means the same dashboard, door cards and the equipment levels Kinetic, Momentum and Summum (maybe you have different names in America?, Henkan), On our spy pictures new seven spoke, 17” wheels can be seen. They will become standard equipment on the T5-modells (will also be available on the S80),
Engine wise the V70 gets the same choices that the new S80 already has, some more additions will probably arrive later though. The ethanol fuelled 2,0F will have a Volvo developed five cylinder, two litre, turbocharged engine putting out around 200hp. Rumour also has it that a cheaper two litre, four cylinder engine (145hp) from Ford will be available in 2008. At least two diesel engines will be available in the new V70, the strongest will be the D5 with 185hp. The top-of-the-line model will not be the planned V70 V8 AWD (though it will be available), but a V70 R with a turbocharged 4,4 litre V8 engine putting out approximately 370hp. The V70 R will make it debut in late 2008, early 2009.
The new V70 is right now going through pre-production at the Torslanda-plant, and the first production vehicles will reach dealers during late spring, early summer.

Yep, wagon fans adore the V70. The V70 R with a 6-speed manual is where its at!! They actually sell pretty damn well for Volvo. The XC70 is a good seller too, but I hated driving that thing.
These wagons need the R treatment to look some what decent.
But I do like the Audi A6 Avant. Thats a nice wagon.
