Default Consumer Reports Owner Satisfaction Survey: Luxury Cars

Sorry if this is a repost. Got this elsewhere.

Consumer Reports annual owner satisfaction survey (April 2006) asks OWNERS to rate their satisfaction with their own cars. The question they ask for this survey, as always, is: "Would you buy this car again?"

The Survey lists the following cars (Shown next to the percentage of owners who would buy it again.)

* 92% - Infiniti M35/M45
* 89% - Lexus GS300/GS430
* 89% - Lexus LS430
* 80% - Audi A6 sedan (V6)
* 78% - Acura RL
* 75% - Jaguar XJ Series
* 75% - Audi A8
* 72% - BMW 5 Series (V8)
* 70% - Lincoln Town Car
* 69% - BMW 5 Series (6-cyl.)
* 67% - Cadillac STS
* 64% - BMW 7 Series
* 63% - Jaguar S-Type
* 62% - Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Lexus doesn't surprise me. The M35/45 is just a tremendous hit for the company. Now they are going to have to use that same formula on the rest of the lineup. Kudos to them.

The 5 series & the E class are the biggest sellers in it's class & yet their owners' satisfaction rate is so much lower than the M & the GS, sigh . . .

I am glad to see the Japanese automakers taking the top spots, from the M to the RL. This tells you Japanese automakers are doing something something right.

the bigger population will somewhat skew the data. more moans and complaints which will bring down the survey.

I don't know if the list got cut off, but what about the S class, even though the LS and 7 are in there?

And both jag-u-ars are in there?

Maybe the new S class is too new to have enough data for owners to rate ?
The old S class always have a dark solid black dot rating next to it in CR, so it's not hard to guess how well it would fair, even though this ownership satisfaction survey is for overall satisfaction (whether to buy it again), not just reliability.

I had to check above and it was the April 06, so they weren't talking about the new S.......are they?

As in reliability, new S class has been pretty good unlike the 2000 era. Haven't read much complaints at all, considering this is a first year built
If reliability is good, then ownership satisfaction should be good too

I think maybe they only list car models that are in currrent production ? & the previous S class ended production then . . .

I think much of this centers around dissatisfaction with BMW's I-Drive, their current lower level of fit-and-finish compared to the pre-Bangle cars, and the low reliability of M-B electronics and hardware.

Lower level of fit-and-finish? I hear you on the I-Drive, but I personally think the BMWs have a higher level of fit and finish nowadays. Thoughts?
