Default Purpose Built Taxi's for North America - Standard Taxi

source : More Pics : CLICK HERE
In America, taxis are usually mid- to full-size sedans, though some large urban markets like New York City have seen a sprinkling of other vehicles such as SUVs and minivans enter their fleets.

Standard Taxi, a Troy, Michigan-based outfit who is looking to do for the US what LTI has done in the UK: create a highly recognizable and enormously practical taxi specialized for North American use.

The Standard Taxi looks like a compact armored car, with a tall, pedestrian-friendly nose, high roof, and a stubby rear that houses 26.7 cu. ft. of luggage space. Interior volume is 139 cu. ft. - on par with the Crown Vics passengers usually flag down when they need a ride. Unlike the venerable Crown Vic, however, the Standard Taxi seats four in the passenger compartment, something that hasn't been seen in a a reguler car-style taxi since the classic Checker cabs with their pair of jumpseats against the divider. The Standard Taxi accomplishes this by sealing off the driver's seat in it's own little box

Those London Taxi's aren't exactly pretty, but if these things become a symbol like the London taxi's, maybe tourists will like riding in them
They do look like a tool box, but at least it looks practical . . .

Who cares what taxis look like? It's all about function over form...

In fact, a funky looking one is better. Easier to spot them and flag them at night.

Good concept but with those tiny wheels, the whole car would get stuck after going over some of the pot holes i've seen downtown, and imagine it going over some of those killer speed bumps!

its a taxi not your main ride, it will do its job, which is ferrying people around fine, not to look good

If they want maximum capacity/utility they should make it a real box. Oh wait, there already is one. It's called a van. This Notre Dame thing makes the Aztec look proud.

Function precedes form.

That is as functional as the xB. Most amount of space to transport people...

I think the London Cab looks better. Just because it's a standard cab doesn't mean it can't be stylish. It looks like something out of Minority Report or i Robot... those futuristic cities with robotic cabs.
