Toyota creeps up on GM, sets sights on No. 1
Japanese automaker raises outlook by a third and lifts global vehicle sales forecast to 9.8 million in '08, putting it on track to dethrone GM.
September 20 2006: 7:52 AM EDT

TOKYO (Reuters) -- Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. on Wednesday lifted its interim net profit outlook by a third and mapped out a plan to keep cranking up its sales by rolling out new strategic cars and boosting plant efficiencies.

well, it's almost no news anymore. funny thing is not only due to toyota doing better and better every quarter to improve themselves, GM is also "helping" by doing worse and worse....

Well stated rominl. GM isn't helping themselves at all and instead helping Toyota by doing worse. GM has a long way to catch up and an even longer way to surpass Toyota as far as quality, reliability, etc...

It was great to meet you in person at the Tast of Lexus event...

I don't like how quality declines as Toyota continues to rush production to be #1. I'd rather have a bullet proof car then be the #1 car maker in the world.

Quality declines huh? Wow there's some system of measure that illustrates the current state of build quality of a manufacturer instantly at any point in time? The only one I know of takes yearly values; therefore it takes time. The last metric I saw had Toyota as most reliable and best vehicle for more than half of the categories listed.

even if GM started building decent vehicles.. they have dug themselves a hole already... it would take ...ALOT.. for me to choose GM over any import (including european.. mmm)
