Toyota has been spending a lot of money on R&D for making new vehicles and products, but they've been slipping on the quality issue.
For all that money being spent, you'd think that a chunk goes to quality and reliability, not just new technology and design...

there hasnt been any updated long term reliability reports on the modern toyotas so to say it affected its problems per vehicle is unproven due to the number of vehicles they are racking out. People see a few forum posts and overreact that toyotas quality suddenly sucks, you never hear about the other people that report no problems
