Lightbulb In the movie Bad Boys I. When the Cobra raced the 911 Turbo?......

Okay so the end of the movie, the bad guy (who played a GREAT part) dips out in the Shelby Cobra (clearly a replica) but lets say its the real thing.

I want to say this dude had damn near a 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile lead on the airport runway.

He is driving by himself.

Will Smith's character has a 911 (964) Turbo. Badass. Now, Martin Lawrence is driving it, picks up Will and the lady is in the backseat.

3 people.

Martin usually drives slow but the dude shot him, at his wife, etc and he is pissed and flooring the turbo. Will Smith is talking lots of SMACK to him that they got to catch this dude.

Well they do, hit him, he crashes, the 911 turbo caught up and made it.

Now, is this possible or some Hollywood stuff?

Air cooled 911 Turbo would catch up to the Mustang engined AC Cobra replica. Even the real 427 AC Cobra would lose. I can go to Mcdonalds with the Porsche and catch up

i like it when people make what it looks like an upshift and the car gets louder and faster

or the 7 upshifts of the eclipse in the very beginning of TF&F1

And the Turbo 911 in the high 11's low 12's and scorch to a top speed beyond the AC. I know Factory Five can make you a 427 that will give you a 3.6 0-60 and high 11's in the quarter. The AC will run out of breath at up top and max out at 160 at best.

I would say the 911 based soley on the gearing. I'm pretty sure the 911 has the power and long enough gears to catch up and pass.

This is a 964 911, if he has the 3.3 liter turbocharged variant his car made 320 hp at best, if its a rare 1994 model (very unlikely.) With the 3.6 liter, it still made 360 hp, vs the Cobra's 480 hp.

This cars at this era are not the 200 mph cars people put them to be. I still think that itd have a higher top speed then the original cobra though, due to gearing. But could it catch a cobra in 1/4th mile? More like the cobra would catch the 964 turbo!

Somebody get the gearing for each gear as well as the differential gearing and you can find out pretty easy.

As far as horsepower, that isn't going to help you much. You could have 1000 hp that tops out at 120 depending on how you configured the above. Maybe more mph maybe less.

Another question is the cobra may have had a 1/4 mile lead but how far did they drive.

I'd say most likely Hollywood BS but I think on a long open road, the Porsche would eventually pass the 427.

Damit, I almost bought a 94 3.6 black a year ago (which was what they had in the movie). I now cry.

It was known that the AC Ace Cobra roadster ran into an aerodynamic brick wall at 160 MPH. For this reason, the Daytona Cobra coupe was developed in 1964 for the high speed tracks in the US and Europe. Six were hand built.

The Porsche doesn't have this problem with a near 190 MPH top speed.

Flux Capacitor...he hit it and time travelled ahead. Maybe it was a super duper RUF and twin Flux Capacitors.

Thinking about it, visually it closed the distance faster than 30 MPH. Unless it was hitting 0-220 in 1/4...that is a bit of a stretch. Fun to watch though.
