Default Toyota says it's on track to hit German sales target

Tue Sep 12, 2006 4:49am ET

FRANKFURT, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T remains on track to hit its 2006 target for selling 140,000 units in Germany, Europe's biggest auto market, the world's second-largest carmaker said on Tuesday.

"After the record month of August, we expect in September as well to have sales rise to 12,000 vehicles. Thus we are well above the year-ago level of 11,200 vehicles," Toyota Deutschland Vice-President Markus Schrick told Reuters at a trade fair.

"The annual target of 140,000 registrations, including 5,100 Lexus vehicles, is within reach," he added.

Toyota sold 135,000 vehicles in Germany last year. It expects to roughly maintain its 4.3 percent market share. Its August results -- with 11,000 registrations and a market share of 4.5 percent -- were its best August yet in Germany.

Schrick said demand for the Toyota Yaris small car and RAV 4 offroader as well as the Lexus IS and GS premium cars was outstanding. Toyota was pleasantly surprised by the demand for hybrid models, he added.
