Default Foaming at the wheel . . .

. . . This could be what a car thief sees in the future...
10th September 2006

Security experts have come up with a system that not only stops thieves from taking your car, but prevents them escaping, too.

US firm Fujitsu Ten has found a way to use expanding polystyrene foam to pin crooks to their seat. When the device detects movement, a small amount of a liquid chemical is released, which then expands to fill the car. Police can cut through the solid foam with a hot wire to reach an intruder. The crazy idea has been recognised by the US Patent Office, but has yet to win any customers.

Need more details . . . I hope it's not easy for the car's owner to get trapped himself . . .

Yea it was Demolition Man, except in the movie I think it was used in accident situations. Foam stuff instead of airbags.

how can they clean the car after that??
to me, catching the thief is not any more important than getting my car back as what it is before.

hopefully it just fills up space and doesn't stick to the interior. it would suck to clean, but nothing damaged.

I dont think the foam is sticky, just solid and expanding, and probably degradable with a certain harmless spray. Or maybe temperature deactivated.
