Audi Announces Pricing for 2007 S6 and S8 Performance Sedans
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Audi of America, Inc. today announced pricing for the 2007 S6 and S8 performance sedans. The 2007 S6 will start at $72,000, and the 2007 S8 will start at $92,000. A destination charge of $720 is not included in the base price. The S6 carries a gas-guzzler charge of $1,300; the S8 has a charge of $1,700.
Both vehicles are equipped with a 5.2-liter V10 FSI engine and are the latest to Audi’s growing performance car portfolio that also includes the S4 sedan, Avant, and Cabriolet, and the RS 4 sport sedan. To date, over 200 orders have been placed for the S6, and close to 350 have been taken for the S8.
The 435 hp S6 accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds. Torque is rated at 397 ft. lbs., with ninety percent of it available from 2300 rpm. The V10 FSI engine is mated to a six-speed Tiptronic® transmission and quattro® all-wheel drive. Other highlights of the S6 include standard 19-inch alloy wheels with performance tires, S6-specific sport suspension and sport seats, revised body work, and LED daytime running lights.
The S8, which can reach 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds, has 450 hp and 397 ft. lbs. of torque, and uses a six-speed Tiptronic transmission with quattro like the S6. Standard 20-inch “S” design alloy wheels and performance tires, a sport adaptive air suspension, special valcona sport seats, and revised body work communicate the S8’s performance potential is communicated even before the engine is started. An optional highlight of the 2007 S8 is the award-winning $6,300, 1000-watt Bang & Olufsen® sound system that recently won “Best Sound System” by the judges in the media for the Ward’s Auto Interior Awards.

^yea it does
435 hp 397 torque for 0-60 5.1 Audi S6, the IS350 can almost do that, hopefully thats underrated. Strange also is the 0-60 in the S8 which is the same engine but heavier body and its slightly faster? Why didnt they put the DSG in it, maybe the power is too great for it

Don't forget the S6 probably weighs more and I'm pretty sure it's larger. The IS competitor from Audi would be the A4 lineup.
The gearing in the S8 may be different, probably a different rear diff. I know Mercedes does that. I think the E500 had a 3.06 while the E55 has a 2.68. Although they are in the same lineup, it does offer evidence that the rear diff on the Audi's might be different.
435hp. The E39 M5 had 400hp or so and it was running 4.8sec 0-60's I think. So I'd expect different hardware changes from S6 to S8 as well as marketing efforts
BTW: I'm in Sugarland

The reason they didn't put the DSG in it is that so far VW/Audi can only match DSG with transversely mounted engines.

I also wish they had made the DSG tranny for these cars. IMO DSG is the next big thing, and when I buy cars I like to keep them a long time, so if I miss the next big thing it's a while until the next car, or else it'll make me want to trade up sooner. So maybe they left it out so that in 1-2 years they put it in and ppl want to trade up.

I do agree however and find it bull that the A8 is quicker - something tells me they tuned the "cheaper" car to be slower.
