Default Will self-parking systems be legal on drivers tests? [VIDEO]

The new system in the LS that parks the car with only braking input from the driver is remarkable, if it works accurately. Assuming that it works well, this system could help new drivers substantially on the drivers test in one of the most feared parts of the test, parallel parking.

Will the system be legal when taking road tests for obtaining a driver's license?

Will the test administrator even know what is happening?

Imagine the first time a test administrator sees someone uses this system during a test. The driver would take his hands and put them in his lap and proceed to parallel park the car, almost magically!

I want one!

I was thinking about this the other day. When the DMV tells you to parallel park during the driving test, would they let people just hit the parking assist button on the Nav screen, and bam! all done!

LOL.

Wait until cars can drive on their own. Driving tests won't be necessary by then.

And it's quite evident when you look at the bumpers of cars parked in San Francisco. Whenever I see someone braille parallel park, it makes me think parallel parking should be required.

Me too, but that was over 10 years ago...

As for parallel parking, the technology is to assist, not for you to substitute. I doubt the DMV will allow you to use it.

I didn't have to parallel park to get a license in SF in 1999, I even asked the lady about it. I did have to parellel to get my license in Ontario in 1994 and again in 2005.

Yes, I think it should be required; no, I don't think the car should be allowed to do it for you.

This will just created more bad drivers if it's legal in driver tests. The kids won't always be driving the LS their whole lives, so they can't always rely on the system.
