You are doing the right thing. Its not quite entry level luxury like the 3/IS/C/A4/G35 etc.

Let's move beyond the BMW vs Lexus spitting battle folks. The numbers speak for themselves, Doug did a good job of summarizing the different spins

Who ever said anything about Nissan wanting 25k sales for the FX? Their sales target at launch was 30,000.

25,000 is not that bad for an SUV that is in its fourth year, whose annual sales target was 30,000.

25,000 is not that bad for a $40,000 / $50,000 vehicle. The FX is only a couple thousand cheaper than the M, and they sell in similar numbers.

If you compare it to FWD biased luxury SUVs like the MDX and RX, its sales are puny. But compare it to the ML (33,000) and X5 (32,000), the FX is not an abysmal failure.

I do think they should have designed it more mainstream (or build another SUV that is more mainstream). And I think sales will continue to go down. Polarizing vehicles like the FX always taper off significantly toward the end of its cycle.

Yes, Toyota uses the tricky DSR (Daily Selling Rate ) for their percentages - makes your numbers look better if you need them to.

BMW does not.

So, with DSR
Lexus up 5.6%
BMW down 9.9%

So without DSR
Lexus up 1.5%
BMW down 13.4%
whats tricky with DSR? Year has 365 days. What you "win" in one month, you lose another. Comparing months without adjusting doesnt make sense in reality, because you dont get apple to apple scenario. In reality name of the month really does not matter, it is number of days that does - thats why year on year is best comparison but hey, gotta have some fun, right?

There are few ppl that always love to point out how Lexus is not doing that good, so I felt the need to point out that it is doing... the best, and main competitor is doing...worse :-).

With BMW having worst month of the year, it was time to rub it in a bit :P

Wow, lots of great results and lots of awful results. It has
become a very polarized car market. Thumbs up for Mercedes
and Toyota.

Personally I am VERY impressed by Mazda. I am seeing
a lot more of those and I really dig those color matched
grills

My post stands on its own...Lexus is doing well, precisely because of its new models. Without them, it would not be doing so well. But that's EXACTLY the way it should be...the attention is on the new stuff.

And I'm seeing more and more ES 350's every day!

Not as many as the IS' or the absolutely everpresent RXs!

And I see that Toyota is doing well, both in the US (#2) and abroad!

i can't believe that the two top japanese automaker are being outclass

hm, again, I dont think anyone builds an vehicle to be last on the sales charts. And honestly, ML and X5 cost a lot more than FX, and are NOT sucessful in US market either.

Its pretty hard to argue that Infiniti is doing good.

Not that 'scary'. Cheverolet alone outsold all Toyota/Lexus. Guess they know what customers want too.

But definitely Toyota's performance and momentum is impressive.

Chevy has always outsold Toyota.. In fact, they are sharply down compared to last year, by some 62,000 vehicles compared to last year or 17%. On the year, they are down by 14% or 250,000 vehicles.

Such poor performance by GM is reason that they will barely be able to hold on to their lead as #1. For first half of the year, they are only 244,000 vehicles up on Toyota and that lead is shrinking fast.
