Porsche has just built a huge new motorsport center in Weissach, Germany.

WEISSACH, Germany — Only the strong survive — to build even more formidable facilities.

Take Porsche, long a kingpin in global racing. The German automaker has spent a year and untold millions of euros to construct its new motorsport center, the heart of the Porsche motorsports empire.

The complex, which is twice as large as the previous facility, encompasses four buildings, all of them connected by a transparent arched roof, as well as racing-car production workshops, a logistics center, a truck terminal and a three-story office building.

This year, Porsche Motorsports expects to build up to 250 racing cars for GT and prototype racing, as well as to contest makes cups in 18 countries. Among the racing vehicles that are prepared in Weissach are the RS Spyder sports-car prototype and the 911GT3 RSR. The facility also houses more than 20,000 parts, including spares for the roadgoing 911GT3 and the 911GT3 RS.

What this means to you: If you're a Porsche Motorsports customer — or simply a Porsche racing fan — the new Weissach complex should come as welcome news, as it can only strengthen the automaker's winning ways.
