Default Supra BPU or SC3TT, Tell me what you think?

Ok guys, i cant decide between a mkiv supra tt or sc3 with a 2jz swap. Of course if both were given to me, i'd take the supra, but lets keep in mind, the sc3 will be more of a sleeper, and also cost around 10k less, both in "unmodded" 2jzgte form. the supra will be a 6spd and the sc3 will probably be a r154 5speed.

So what would you guys do? and why? id be stoked with either car.

Exactly. I had a SC I was about to do a swap in but decided on the Supra for it's great value. It's rare to seen even a modified SC sell for 18K or more once TT'd, yet it's tough to find a supra priced lower than this.

The resale value for the supras are driven only by demand and lack of supply, actually this is one of the main reasons I would not get get one.

Imagine you spend 30,000 in obtaining one, and some idiot t-bones you, now your insurance cuts you a check for 15,000...

No thanks.

Funny you should mention that, as it happened to me in my girlfriends car and she was written a check for $38,000. You just have to prove to the insurance company that the blue book value is often not applicable to the specific model and have appraisals done to prove the cars worth.

yes, the supra..always one of my favs...and yes..the sc3tt one of my candidates due to saving 10k. side note..i was told that the r154 will hold just as well as the 6sp getrag except its a 5sp..anyone care to chime in?

Getrag 6 speed is stronger than the 5 speed r154, plus one extra gear and shorter ratios...
the 6 speed is unbeatable..

there is just no contest whatsoever. and im not so sure it would be that much cheaper and just way too much work. u can find a supra for what? 18k and to swap a SC would cost u what? 4k for the shelll but like 10k for the swap(engine and tranny from a shop)... unless u were planning to do it urself. not worth the hassle.

i have been running this scenario for a while now..and in all honesty, if i could find a 6sp with ,120k for 18k, i would have it already, but as i'm sure most of the fellow supra people know that its gonna be more like 22k plus. sometimes i do think..honestly, whats the difference between 18k and 22k if ur gonna get the car you want....i guess i'm answering my own question...thanks guys

In my current situation, I'm sick of working on cars at the moment.

I'd take a lightly modded 94-95 6-speed supra over an equivalent SC300TT. I love my Lexus no doubt, but after nearly 5 years of ownership, I'm ready for something new

My toy right now is my Nissan... I just got nearly all the bugs worked out of it; and now am lacking a good tune. If I can get a couple wideband O2 runs at WOT and a couple readings at low load, then I'll be able to finish tuning it. I am sick of working on it though, glad its coming to an end. I just want to drive it and have fun.

i was torn between getting a supra or sc300.. but then i decided to get an sc400 and turn it into a luxury show car while still being a great daily driver and eventually i'll buy the right supra 6spd turbo and turn it into a high hp monster.

I love the supra but I would go with the SC for the sleeper status. Plus you could always swap in the Getrag later and you should have no problem selling the R154.
