New Mercedes Benz CL-Class (UPDATE - Carlsson CK60)
This forthcoming Mercedes-Benz CL luxury coupé is spotted here running relatively lightly disguised, with matt black tape over its gloss black paintwork.
By and large, the tape appears simply applied over the bodywork to hide details like lamp units and rear window shape, but the contour on the rear wings could disguise a prominent wheelarch bulge, like that seen on the B-Class and M-Class, and also tipped for the forthcoming S-Class. What is clear despite the disguise is that the next-generation CL has a bonnet standing proud of hunkered front wings.
Developed on the same platform as the upcoming S-Class, the CL, Mercedes' biggest luxury coupé, will also feature a lot of the new technology that will feature on the next S-Class, so expect developments of Mercedes' active safety systems like Pre Safe and Brake Assist Plus.
Engines will also mirror those in higher-grade S-Class models; a 5.0-litre V8 and 6.0-litre V12 likely to be the debutant models, with AMG versions following later. The CL's S-Class sister-model will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September '05, but we'd imagine that the CL won't make its debut until a few months later, perhaps at the 2006 Detroit show next January.

Damn, with all that body cladding, I thought that was a new Bentley Continental GT. I know the GT has been stealing some of the CL's sales but damn, why such a similar design?? I love the current CL-class, and I hope that they dont go the route of the GT. Not that its a bad thing cause I think the Conti GT is pure badass, but we dont need two of them. I think I'm going to be disappointed when I see this new model, same with the new S-class. As long as they dont mess up the CLK then its all good. Thats the only MB model I really like.

Larger pics & different engine specs. reported :
Codenamed C216, we caught the 2007 Mercedes CL nearly naked and way before its expected debut at either the NAIAS in Detroit or the Geneva Motor Show in 2006, and will go on sale shortly afterwards.
Mildly disguised with only matt-textured black tape attempting to hide the shapes of the lights, rear window and other styling cues, but it's not very hard to see the true lines underneath.
Slightly bigger and with a more aggressive stance, features may include drive-by-wire, an automatic lane guidance system and active steering, as well as parking assist cameras in the side mirrors and front grille.
Engine offerings are expected to include a new 480-hp direction-injection 5.5-liter V-8 for the new CL550, with the CL600 equipped with the current 5.5-liter V-12 twin-turbo. The AMG version will be powered by a normally aspirated 500-hp 6.3-liter V-8.

I don't know, looks more of a clk variant than a cl We'll see.
The current cl is so sleek.
