Bugatti Beater? Maserati Unveils $1.275 Million MC12 Corsa
Date posted: 05-25-2006
MODENA, Italy — Maserati is hoping to climb into the uber-car pantheon with the new MC12 Corsa, which the Fiat affiliate describes as a build-to-order, track-only model based on its MC12 GTI racecar.
Available starting this fall, Maserati will build only 12 cars in total, each with a price tag of a million Euros ($1,275,000), plus tax. The sticker rivals that of the Bugatti Veyron, but there's one twist: Maserati has no plans to homologate the MC12 Corsa for road use or motorsports.
Instead, the automaker says the car is aimed at a select number of clients "who will enjoy the possibility to test their driving capability in the most exclusive gentlemen drivers' environment" — that is, for exclusive use during private track sessions or at Maserati exhibitions.
The Ferrari Enzo-based MC12 Corsa has another key difference from the Veyron, and that's engine output. Where the Bugatti's turbocharged W16 engine makes a ridiculous 1001 horsepower, the 6.0-liter V12 in the Maserati delivers a modest 755 hp through a Cambiocorsa gearbox. The two-place MC12 Corsa features a carbon-fiber monocoque and weighs a mere 2,535 pounds. It rides on 18-inch wheels and tires, and is fitted with Brembo racing brakes.
Maserati said the customer can individually tailor the car to his or her taste, with the opportunity to personalize the vehicle from a limited option list. The exterior palette includes the official Maserati color, called Blue Victory, and a range of other hues, available upon client request.
What this means to you: In terms of performance, it's no Bugatti, but the new MC12 Corsa offers even greater exclusivity than the tony Veyron.

i think the difference here is that at the end of the day, a Veyron owner will be no less comfortable than when he got into it to blast around at 250 miles an hour, where as a MC12 owner will be sore, bottom numb, and ears bleeding profusely not to mention a sore neck trying to look around him.

This car is in no way in the same league as the Veyron for one reason:
You can drive the Veyron on the street.
Cars that are driven exclusively on the track can not be evaluated in the same way as
street legal cars. Period. This car looks like a race car. The Veyron is pure exotic bliss.
You won't see Tom Cruise driving the Maserati at any premiers....

Yeah if it isn't even street legal then it has nothing to compare to the Veyron. What's so unparalleled about the Bugatti is that it excels in every measurable and unmeasurable (save perhaps for the controversial look) way while passing all the safety, noise level and emission regulations for street use. That's true engineering.

i wonder how this compares to FXX on the track
since MC12 beats Enzo slightly, maybe Corsa will beat FXX too?
im hoping to see this on top gear or fifth gear soon!

One of the Gawkerettes, much to our considerable and unrelenting jealousy, spent Sunday in Monaco checking out the Grand Prix (go, go Alonso) from a yacht in the Mediterranean. While there, she (by the grace of Bill the parking attendant) captured a shot of the just-revealed Maserati MC12 Corsa — the track-only, limited-edition version of the Enzo-based MC12 — as it sat waiting for, well, we’re not exactly sure what. Special thanks go to Mark Cumming of for use of the phone cam.

Limited to 12 units worldwide
Maserati is pleased to announce the production of the MC12 Corsa, a supercar build-to-order for a select number of Maserati clients.
The MC12 Corsa has been developed from the MC12 GT1 type which won the 2005 FIA GT Manufacturers Cup, and will allow its owners to test their driving capability in the most exclusive gentlemen drivers’ environment. It will be used exclusively on track during private test sessions - or exhibition activities organised by Maserati. It will not be homologated for road use or for any racing activities.
The Maserati MC12 Corsa – living testimony of Maserati’s ability to individually tailor-make specially produced high-tech cars - will be on sale at the price of 1,000,000 Euros (plus tax) starting from next Autumn. Available in the official Maserati “Blue Victory” color, it can be personalized upon request with several optional items, starting from a different colour upon request by the client.
Total production of the Maserati MC12 Corsa will not exceed 12 units worldwide.
