Drove my first benz today
I was having my tranny flushed out (15K interval) at a large, local toyota dealer and they had a 99 SL500 on the front display. I requested a test drive and the salesman put a plate on and off we went.
Notable:
High quality, reasonably smooth powertrain.... there was alot to like about it...
Legroom was not very good. I put the seat all the way back and it was alright... then I needed to reclien the seatback, since it was almost completely upright... and when I did the seat would move forward as it was just a 2-seater and there was no room behind it.
All things considered, a truly excellent hardtop convertible, but inferior to my 7 year older SC400 in every way with the slight exception of power. The Benz was horrendous off the line, but at around 20 mph it just couldnt stop accelerating.
Ive driven a 93 Q45, a 92 LS, a 97 LS (all VERY high mileage) numerous Cadillacs, an 03 ES, a 97 ES, an 02 TL-s... hands down the only car that was as good as my SC400 was the 97 LS. Lexus makes truly incredible cars that drive like new even after 10-15 years and beyond...
