Default Mercedes to show face-lifted G-Class ute at upcoming Paris auto show

Mercedes-Benz will show a face-lifted G-Class at the Paris auto show in September.

The revised premium SUV keeps its boxy exterior looks, but will get new interior features and more powerful engines mated to a seven-speed transmission instead of the current five-speed unit.

With the introduction of the larger, more luxurious GL premium SUV late last year, it was expected that the G-Class would be discontinued.

But the carmaker decided last November to continue selling the model until 2010.

Mercedes has offered the G-Class since 1979. It is built by Magna Steyr in Austria. Last year, Magna built 5,045 G-Class units, according to J. D. Power-LMC.

We had a thread mourning the death of the G some time ago. Good to see them keeping the G alive.

I wonder if there'll eventually be a redesigned G after 2010 though.

Saw a commercial for the new GL this morning...pretty hilarious if you ask me

Made the car out to be indestructable...super efficient, sporty, etc...

Kind of looks like a softer GX.

I never liked the look of the G until a friend purchased one. For some reason now, I just love the design of the G, especially in black.

The interior is old school Mercedes, but I love driving the G. It definitely has presence.

Yes Sirrr. It's so ugly ala H1 but that's what makes it beautiful. When you see a black one tinted out, it just screams "Salute Me". Glad to see the G is still alive. And yeah they look sooooo much better in Black. It's not even funny.
