they never discontinued the land cruiser...
The original was like back in the 60s, (FJ40)
the bigger redesigned (FJ60) lasted for the 80s up till 1991
1992 they released the FJ80,
1993 got a 4.5 straight six upgrade (from 4.0) and was labeled FZJ80 (what i drive) which lasted till 1997.
1998 got another update in styling and chassis, removing the solid front axle for an independent setup, and a 4.7 liter V8, producing 235 horsies and 325 lb-ft of torque.
the car has remained the same since then, with minor styling and engine horsepower and torque upgrades.

I really hope they never discontinue the Land Cruiser. That will be a huge mistake IMO. When I think of a Toyota off road vehicle I immediately think of the Land Cruiser. So much history.

i've got a buyer..he was supposed to show up today but he didn't but he called me to let me know that he'd come around tomorrow.
so we shall see.
sad to see the beast go---but gas prices are soaring past $3 a gallon...

I think first mass production was in '54. Toyota spins off many cars from Land Cruiser platforms and still builds around 200,000 LC's per year around the world.. It is not going anywhere, new version of big Land Cruiser is coming in 2007.

I don't like SUV in general but the LC is one that I would not mind having in the garage. If sales are not going well, I think they may switch the badge and call them all Lexus here in NA.
