Mercedes SLR to get Power Boost (626-650), & SLR Roadster to be Introduced(new pics).
More details on 2007 Mercedes SLR (and SLR roadster) . . .
Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport is reporting that the Mercedes SLR will get a boost from 626 to 650 horsepower, a revised interior, reduced overall weight, even better brakes, and a new wheel design. All this means the car will hit 62 mph in 3.6 seconds instead of 3.8, and 125 mph in 10.2 instead of 10.6 seconds. Mercedes plans to build 150 SLR coupes per year until the end of 2007. At that point, the number of coupes will be lowered due to the introduction of the SLR roadster, which is expected to sell more units.

very true, the porsche gt and ferrari enzo are way on top of the slr imho. and then again even in the mb lineup, the sl65 for much less money can give it a very good run
and just curious, even better brakes? damn, i still remember how "badass" the brakes were in the top gear show

Mercedes SLR McLaren Due for a Major Update?
STUTTGART — The German magazine Auto Motor und Sport says an update to the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren may be coming as early as September. The publication says upgrades will include a power increase for its supercharged V8 from 626 to 650 hp DIN (German horsepower numbers), an updated interior, 19-inch wheels, a firmer suspension, a new braking system and increased weight savings. As a result of the modifications, the new SLR's 0-to-60-mph time is expected to improve from 3.8 to 3.6 seconds.
Rob Moran, a U.S. spokesman for Mercedes-Benz, would not confirm the Auto Motor und Sport report. "We'll reveal [it] when it's ready to go," he told Inside Line. "Drivetrain and powertrain are TBD." Moran said the company sold about 200 SLRs in the U.S. in 2005 and is "running about the same this year."
The 2006 SLR includes new trim options and exterior colors, including a blue model with a tan interior that made the rounds of the Los Angeles auto show, the Barrett-Jackson auction and the Chicago auto show. Moran reports that the blue SLR that had been on display at those events was "snapped up by a wealthy publisher" who remains unnamed and who spent about $460,000 on the vehicle.
What this means to you: Naturally, it's time to readjust our supercar dreams up one more notch.

That's still way off from the Veyron's hp LOL. Not a fan of either car, they both look kinda ugly to me, though I like the Veyron a little better overall . . .

Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch a powered-up version of the McLaren-built SLR coupe in a bid to stir sales of the 208-mph supercar.
Caught in these spy photos undergoing testing on public roads prior to a planned unveiling at the Paris motor show in September, the reworked SLR is distinguished from the existing model by subtle styling changes around the front and rear ends—all aimed at improving high-speed stability and creating more efficient underbody airflow.
The interior also gets special attention, with carbon fiber trim and other weight-saving changes that help reduce the SLR’s curb weight by about 90 pounds.
Under the SLR’s long hood goes an even hotter version of AMG’s supercharged 5.4-liter V8. The revised powerplant produces an extra 24 hp, pushing total output to 641 hp. With a corresponding increase in torque and improvements to the five-speed automatic gearbox to shorten shift times, the SLR’s 0-to-62-mph time drops by 0.2 second to just 3.6 seconds—fast enough to undercut competition like the Lamborghini Murciélago and Porsche Carrera GT. The 0-to-124-mph time is also 0.4 second quicker, down to just 10.2 seconds.
Further details remain scarce, but AutoWeek sources suggest no more than 150 of the hotter SLRs will be built before the end of the year at McLaren’s showcase Paragon production site in Woking, England. Once that production is completed, McLaren will turn its attention to an open-top version of the Anglo-German two-seater tentatively set for its public debut at next year’s Geneva motor show.
