Unhappy Pontiac dumping two Vibes

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...024/LATESTNEWS

DETROIT -- Pontiac will discontinue the GT and all-wheel-drive versions of the Vibe wagon after the 2006 model year. It blamed sluggish sales and changes in U.S. emissions standards that would have made the models costly to redesign.

Pontiac will continue to offer the base Vibe for the 2007 model year. -JAMIE LAREAU

Doesn't the Vibe share quite a bit of parts with the Toyota Matrix? I heard they share (Pontiac uses Toyota's) parts and certain mechanisms/electronics, making the Vibe the most reliable Pontiac. Is this true?

For example:
Toyota Matrix interior:

And the Pontiac Vibe interior:

Note the subtle differences, like the sun visors...

Any amount of reductions in pontiac's on the road makes me smile.

Quite possibly the biggest POS that GM have produced yet. I have dated chicks that own them and watched them fall apart....literally (The cars, not the chicks )

You've seen Vibes fall apart? They're just Toyota Matrixes with some badge engineering and body kit...

PS, sad news about GM dumping the GT and AWD. I love my girlfriends AWD.

Neither are really pretty to look at, but I actually prefer the exterior of the Vibe over the Matrix . . .

Just curious, but where are the Matrix sales versus the Vibes?

Now does this end all Toyota-GM ties? The Corolla used to be the Chevy Prizm, but Chevy replaced that with the Aveo, and now the end of the Vibe.

IF that is seriously the vibe vs matrix interior holy crap......its like looking right into a mirror. Hardly any differences. Not the first time japan has shared body styles with american cars though. We had the Villiger(sp?) and the nissan quest, we had the corolla and the metro....so many more just cant remember the names.

they are dumping two models, not Vibe... Vibe will still continue to sell.
Vibe and Matrix are exactly the same car, with some visual differences. They were engineered and built by Toyota.

3 things to note:
- Toyota imported Vibe version of twins in Japain where it failed to capture public and got cancelled.
- Vibe always had worse quality ratings than Matrix, both built on same line.
- Vibe never managed to sell in same numbers as Matrix.

The Matrix is one of the top 20 dealer hot lot sellers. I couldn't believe that

I PREFER the Vibe's looks to the Matrix.
