Feb Popular Mechanics tests Civic Hybrid/Highlander Hybrid and compares to gas models
They recommened the Highlander saying you get more performance and fuel economy, even for $4800 more.
They do NOT recommend the Civic Hybrid, saying the fuel economy is slighly improved and performance is worse, for $1800 more.
I like hybrids, no matter what and kudos to Honda and Toyota being leaders here
